I made it up on Thursday afternoon and I found some super variable conditions. There was definitely and icy layer from last weekend's thaw, and the wind effected spots were buffed down to that. Up on the ridge, I got a soft slab to fracture fairly easily in my stability tests (about 6" deep where I was at). Below that layer, it was super bomber. I would avoid open, wind-blasted runs and any heavy exposure due to the active top layer. I found the best snow in the trees and protected chutes. I'll be up there again today, but I'm headed elsewhere tomorrow to find some better riding.

Scary in spots but certainly worth it. Just be on your best behavior. The boot pack to the ridge was more gnar than normal.

    Hi Fi Guest
The 10am corn was quite nice today in between old wet slides in N. Bowl. Freeze-thaw cycle is in.

worth it to boot up to anywhere, or are we just talking a suffer-fest? I'm beeping but I have no AT gear, but I'd love to go make some corn turns. Maybe Monday? Not worth it? Gear I can borrow?

Toured out north today, found fantastic turns to be had, anyone feeling unmotivated should give it a whirl. I was expecting a long tour with little reward but was pleasantly surprised by some of the more enjoyable turns of the season.

    Cell one

Any of you mags have cellular one service this year, and did it work at Bridger at all??? They are much less expensive than verizon and a local guy is hooking up iphones in Bozeman, but if I can't get some service at BB than I don't think it can work for me.
(sorry no ski info just need some beta)
    Thanks

If cellone=alltel, i think that it gets service in areas similar to verizon at bb. Otherwise, not sure.

    cell one != alltel.
cell one is GSM and alltel his CDMA and verizon might own the towers now, or not, there's some weird anti-trust stuff.

The problem is that I'm pretty sure there's no cell tower anywhere in Bridger Canyon.
    EDIT: I'm right, I think.

No cell service on the canyon road, and on the lower mountain/parking lots.

It DOES work on the upper mtn, such as top of Bridger/DP, top of PK, and definitely up on top of the ridge and slushies'.

Not really sure where exactly the cut-off is, didn't ski with my phone in my hand...

    Thanks!

Thanks everyone for all the beta, very helpful. But I want to make sure(Jumper Bones did you have cellular one for a provider?) because that is the same service that verizon gets.

    Thanks again

Negative, I had AT&T with the iPhone...I might argue their service is more limited than CellOne, since it's all 'out of area' partner coverage...

    Same with Verizon.

I don't think you're going to get better than Verizon's coverage, but you probably won't get worse.

Do we really need better coverage at Bridger?

It's kind of nice not listening to people talk on a cell phone in the lift lines:

"Oh hi Jill, yea I'm actually at this really quaint ski resort in Montana right now,
Oh I can talk no big deal, ..."

    Or

"Cough cough, really sick boss, sorry, I might be able to make it in to work at around 4 though, cough cough, if I'm feeling better."

    Or

"Timmy! where are you right now... WHAT?, you're where?, well I'm about to get on the SHlaaazmans lift, hold on a sec, I have to have a what to ski this lift? whats a beeper?"
