    TGR from a smartphone

I used to be able to post from my Samsung Blackjack ... IE on Windows Mobile.

I know it worked because I posted from the Mammoth gondy during the 08 Mammoth Mini.

But then I was trying to live post from Kirkwood when it was nuking ... and for whatever reason the key formatting got hosed. It's like my phone was on a screwy version of num lock, where some letters were capitalized, some buttons only did the number, some came out with funky symbols, etc.

I don't think anything changed in my phone, and I don't know how I can update Internet Explorer on the thing.

Anyone else have this issue or know anything about it?

It's not a big deal, but fun to be able to live post from things like a major storm or a mini summit etc!

From my crackberry. Try a soft reset on your phone?
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

I think it's something specifically resulting from stupid Windows Mobile ...

soft reset? I've rebooted my phone quite a bit, I don't want to lose any of my data though if you mean restore factory settings.

okay, clearly my phone is messed up ... now when I try to type URL's in the browser address it does the same screwy character.

Guess I've got to go to the store and waste my time while they figure out what's up.

I think i meant reboot. On the crackcherry, it's simply popping the battery and putting it back in. Sounds like you're way ahead on that. Good luck, almost sounds like it's switched to some kind of auto-spell setting or sumpin. Sinecure knows a shitton about cell phones, you might pm him. [no, not shitting you, only do that with iceman and/or rontele ]

or I might have to just use the excuse to visit the old man on north shore. It'd be pretty sweet to stop into the patrol shack and tell them I need help with my smartphone

i do wish we had a low bandwidth version with txt formatting because this formatting is hard to read on a smart phone and each page load is at least 500K

That would be convenient, page loads (such as the 56 page Tahoe conditions thread) take a while on my phone.

But you know, when you do a google search of TGR threads, sometimes you get the version that has no photos, just the text only. I think it's only with archived threads? I wonder how you can get to that type of formatting intentionally ???

schralph - I swear one of us is following the other around here...

I was just going to post this, as I want to go undercover at work so people don't keep seeing that obvious blue forum on my screen. I'm on other forums that aren't nearly as obvious (white background, black text).

I was going to try to build myself a new VBulletin skin for this forum, but as far as I can tell, only the forum admins can set up a new skin for vbulletin.

I think only SuitStyle works for TGR anyway. But is would be great to have a PlainJain style with text only, no avatars, links to embedded images, and a white background.

It ruins most sites, but you can always override all websites primary colors with the ones you prescribe. I did that for a while in Firefox.

Viewing/posting from my iPhone works fine btw.

I just figured out how to setup firefox to do a text only, black and white browse of the TGR forums.

    tools>options>content>uncheck "load images automatically"
    tools>options>content>colors>uncheck "allow pages to choose..."

It works well enough for what I was going for. everything loads a lot faster too. since I use chrome mostly, I can just use firefox for this forum and anything else I want to browse image free.

yeah, but that doesnt help on my cell phone!

i tried using opera but it's realy buggy on windows mob 6.1 - thinks i have a touch screen or something.

s i went to the att store, and sure enough the keyboard worked fine on tgr. wtf? anyways the guy recommended i upgrade to wm 6.1 because of another problem i had with apps crashing.

tgr = working on my phone again.

I use Opera Mini on a AT&T/HTC Tilt -- works fine for posting here, though it's a multi-step process (i.e. slow)

Huh, wonder what the diff is with Opera Mini and Opera Mobile?
    Maybe I'll try Opera Mini.

I haven't tried Opera Mobile -- when I was looking for something better than IE for the phone, I googled it; general consensus seemed to be go for Opera Mini, and -- IIRC -- that Opera Mobile was buggy and didn't work that well.

Opera Mini sort of takes a snapshot of a website as you navigate to it, so when the screen loads, it's the entire page as you would see it on a desktop browser -- but very very small. You then scroll a selection box around the window to approximately where you want to go, click, and it zooms in to a legible size.

go to the samsung website and look up the blackjack 2 (sgh-i617) and you can download windows mobile 6.1.

be warned that it will wipe everything. Activesync can pull off your contacts and files but not your text messages.

also, after I updated, IE didn't work until I said to "automatically detect internet settings" in the IE Options menu.

So far so good though. The new Task Manager is a lot cooler. The new start menu is a little bit cleaner. Mostly all the same stuff, I am hoping that it is more stable as my reminders app used to crash from time to time in 6.0
