Snow is on hold, but swell looks good next five days

Watching the forecast and weather, I was kind of bummed the heat is returning, until I got some in the water for some fun beach break today.

Looks like we have two swells arriving on the central coast tomorrow - both about 13 second periods. Small at 4 and 5.5 feet, but something to ride. Light winds even.

The winds churn up Thursday to only turn east by Friday. New swell arrives late Thursday at 6@13-14, and another on Saturday at 5.7@15...

So looks like I have a bit more surfing to do. If this fall weather holds, it could be some good surfing the next few days. Go get at it.

So double posting is lame - but

Surf is on in the Bay Area. Got a slightly late start. As I was looking it went from sunny to foggy. Drove by 'chokes and saw four cars, so gave it a whirl. As I hiked to the cliff, the fog thickened. Still, I decided to get in based on what I saw earlier.

Went down the cliff, stretched and paddled out. It was glassy, lined up, solid and several feet overhead. Very nice. Everyone had headed in except this one guy I knew. I thought perfect. Then, after my first wave, he said he was heading in.

So I spent the next hour catching sick waves, sitting in the fog at the bottom of a cliff thinking of sharks. I could not see the cliff, and no one came out. Finally the sharks won the mind game, and I went in. But man - so sick sick surf this morning. And a few real good duck dives.

Thanks for the heads up ottime, sounds fun out there solo with the big fish.

Forecast is calling 10@15 for S.B. in Humboldt. Skiing is pretty fun right now, but this may be too good to pass up...

I went skiing yesterday due to the wind forecast. It was good: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...d.php?t=140086

    Returned to this today

Clear, warm, calm and a bit of swell still running. Not too shabby. Looks to be glassy this weekend.

^^^I'll PM my number - sounds like you are in SC. I definitely prefer not to be the only bobbing apple out there.

Today it looks like I did not to worry about being lonely. My buddy got me to head south to the beaches. Moss looked good, especially this right.

But I could not deal with the number of cars in the lot. Over 50. Fuck that.

So we headed south to platforms to find a very solid overhead right barrel. I did not really get any pics of it because it was down the beach, but here is the left in front of where we parked.

No one caught anything while I was shooting, but that black dot behind the shoulder toward the right is someone bobbing. The big ones were 8 foot plus faces, and some just got cylindrical.

I did get this stand up boarder dropping into a close out

As we were leaving I shot this of the peak we surfed. The right was the wave to get.

I usually hate the beaches and was all grumpy when we pulled into Moss. Got to give my buddy credit for pulling me down there. I only got 6 or 8 waves in two hours, but three of those were unreal roping right barrels I was surprised were makable. FKNA!

OB looked like the pics above all day today - from cliff house all the way down - some spots hollower, some more crumbly. It was plain silly. Peaks every ~25 yards and endless overhead green walls...probably ~750 surfers out between cliff house and sloat this afternoon but perfect waves everywhere so didn't feel crowded. I can't use my arms too well right now. Best waves I have ever been out in - large faces that held up really well...basically the complete opposite from the standard OB elevator drop closeouts. I didn't realize it could be this good here. I sucked, but the waves were sick. Plus it was 70 and sunny with ~10 mph offshores.

Wow, awesome pics. I didn't know OB ever got that good.

I chose to ski instead and was swimming with my sharks as I climbed a cascade volcanco while dodging huge amounts of rock and ice fall. It kinda felt like surfing, climbing by myself, not turning my back to the mountain, listening for the dreaded whoosh of objects flying by at terminal velocity.

I'm not making the same mistake again. Looks like the swell is back on for Friday, I'm rolling over to Humboldt, looks like I missed the clear and offshore conditions of last week, but I'm sure they'll be some good rides.

Once again nice pics, got me stoked to pull on a wetsuit in the greybird while anticipating 50 degree water and schools of big fishes.

^^^^ what mountains are you hitting up? Conditions?

Nice OB pics. Gonzo - did you shoot those?

It does look like another good day tomorrow, and offshores are possible by Saturday.

we had a really nice corn cycle and even though the pack is shallow it is totally supportive and skiing nicely. You just have to walk a thousand vertical feet or so to reach snowline. A couple inches of fresh yesterday but not enough to keep me here. Rolling in the ghetto rv over to the coast shortly...very stoked.

Today looked decent. A bit warbled up the coast, but relatively clean in town. Me? Too tired to get myself out there to paddle, so I took a few pics.

Natural Bridges was very inconsistent, but some real gems when they came through.

Swift was overhead, jumbled, and blah - but one two wave set came through and hit the reef right. First on was ridden. The second was unridden. Too bad everyone was chasing for the meh insiders.

I took shots, but looking into the sun they were teh suc. John Street had good lighting. This one set up nice down the line

Looks like the swell dips a bit tomorrow, but with a better wind flow.

Gonzo - Turkey Day is going to be a bit wet & windy I was thinking. Sure there will be swell, but I'd expect a lot of junk out there - especially at OB.

Prayin that swell hits San Diego Saturday as it has been small down here. Going to go hit it for the low tide session around 1pm. Further out, looks like the surf around Turkey day will be stormy, but hey, snowing at Mammoth??? Please let it be a solid 2-3 day dump

I'm glad someone got some shots of today...err yesterday. I surfed NB's completely by myself for an hour and scored barrel after barrel with only a few watchers from the lot. After my last barrel I saw three guys on the cliff so as I came out of the barrel I turned in and sent it home. Good day.

Saturday afternoon was good in San Diego. Shoulder, maybe head high. Was really fun stuff. This morning was back to nothing on the high tide

Could not surf today - had to work all day in SF; I sure can use the work right now.

It looked sick all the way up the coast. Swell was a bit overhead and super clean. Did anyone get out there?

    Tomorrow here 6-8.

    Friday 20-25.

    Saturday 26-32.

If winds stay off shore for the most part, it is going to be an epic holiday weekend and awesome way to start VTC at Sunset on Friday.
