noice, noice.
Awesome. It's good to know even the pros end up driving around aimlessly sometimes.
Wow, er, that filter is more than many lenses cost. I assume we will be seeing this soon on the Focus blog?
I just read the hand held dodging and burning technique...are you kidding???? That is some tech stuff. Impressed.
that, sir, is very very impressive. What lens were you using for this shot? It almost looks a little bit fisheye - the barn pops out and the edges seem slightly rounded - how? just a super wide angle lens?
It's distortion caused by a super wide lens on a ff body. To be honest, I'd prefer it wasn't so apparent (even adjusted it slightly in PS), but it's tough to avoid when shooting with an SLR without a tilt-shift lens.
The Griz
im guessing by the amount of dodging on the lower right corner that youre right handed (and were holding that filter predominantly on that corner)
really cool photo though
i dig it
Yeah man. Actually, I'm a lefty. The only dodging and burning done at capture would have been in the sky. The sun (albeit covered by clouds) was behind me and to the left so naturally, the lower right corner was in a bit more shadow. Also, the barn was lit by an orange light which was aimed right at the flag and therefore caused the lower right part of the barn and the grass to appear even less lit. Thanks for the comments chief.
Edit to add that this was actually a 54 sec. exposure (contrary to the 8 sec I listed on my blog--not too sure where I got that from), which gives you an idea of how much more time you would have to "dodge and burn" with the filter in front of the lens.

Hand holding filters is a PITA and very tricky. Too close to the lens and you risk bumping it, too far away and you risk a reflection on the lens side of the filter, not to mention there's a good amount of guess work as to how long to use it in each portion of the image. It's an art in and of itself. One that I totally suck at.
i like how the barn pops out
i guess we need to find you a TS-E

Looks like McCain could have used it in the background for his speech.
Very nice image grizzle6. I keep coming back to it. There is no reason to, there is nothing new to see, I just like looking at it again. I'm drawn to it.
Very nicely done.
it's all young and fun and skiing and then one day you login and it's relationship advice, gomer glacier tours and geezers.

Barker you are ridiculously talented.
I'd love to shoot video of you shooting this, from start to finish. Perhaps re-enacting the dodging and burning part.
It would not only be interesting, but potentially funny.
