Just one bad experience: I tried the "smoked pork sushi" and thought it exemplified everything that's wrong with modern fusion cusisine. As a concept and as executed, it just didn't work for me - clever, but clashing flavors and textures that were just wrong (and this is from someone who likes chicken liver and tongue sandwiches).

But that's the only thing I've had there, and there was nothing wrong with the ingredients or preparation, so it wouldn't surprise me if other stuff is better. As far as ambience, the place seems a little too eurotrash/LA hipster wannabe for my tastes. I'd rather eat at one of the Query outposts across the street, or the Kitchen next door.

not sure, i havent actually "dined" at q's, but have sampled a bunch of dishes from the kitchen. i can ask about the all-you-can-drink thing. i do know that the monthly wine tasting dinner is a big hit with some kick ass dishes and wine pairings. sometimes a bit overpriced, but if its like $65/person definitely worth it. its five courses with each course paired to a wine. and im pretty sure all the courses are nothing thats on the menu.

    nice.

yeah, forgot to mention the teahouse itself. holy shit! i first saw about it on the food network, thats what got me to go. they brought in artisans from tajikistan and they painted the walls and ceiling in traditional style.

first thing i ordered when i went there. haha it was insane! i was like, "latkes and corned beef...hmmm, yes please!"

i didnt have the pork sushi roll, although i do know they smoke the pork in-house. some things probably are a miss, as i guess is the case with many places that try to push the envelope.

i also cant really speak for ambiance, as i was there for an observation of the kitchen, so thats really where i tried everything i had. the guy does know what hes doing, and he became the exec. chef about a year ago. before that it was someone else and he was the sous. that other guy left (or got fired) and the current chef changed the menu to showcase his style. not sure if anything from the older days got kept though.

in any case, its definitely worth a look as its nothing like anything else in boulder, as far as i know.

65$ for 5 courses with wine pairings?

yeah, we do suck (just check the NY Times, they say so!). But if I can travel to Denver frequently for meals, it can happen in reverse.

yeah, true, but I think that's just because it's an "earth day" tasting menu.

yeah, the chef was talking today about what to put on that menu, and how it all has to be organic or locally grown or environmentally friendly. not quite sure how food isnt environmentally friendly...but whatever. haha i know were most likely gonna have some sort of farmed fish for one of the courses. probably black bass.

the food im not concerned about...its the dessert that worries me. our pastry chef is a little nutty.

typical french bistro fare, not uppity french food. the duck is good. the duck crepes are a must try. the beignets were also pretty tasty.
I ate lunch here yesterday, and I must admit, it was better than I remembered it. The Steak Frites au poivres was money.

I have been there a ton of times, so I have had a lot of things on the menu. Salmon sandwich, buffalo reuben, burgers, club, pizza, coconut shrimp, etc...

Ate at Sushi Tazu this weekend and I gotta say I wasn't too impressed. Besides being trendy (which is cool if you're into that sort of thing), the rolls we got were just sort of bland. Being able to order Asahi in 40s was cool though (well dey 21s but I keep em clean). I will have to drop by Go Fish again and write a real review (location).

I love the corner bar too--I was there last night--but did you know they changed the $2 beer of the day to $3? Stupid raising the price of wheat and hops is really getting in the way of my drinking.

Okay, not really since I still got fairly wasted last night.

im the guy that makes the reuben and club/turkey blt (and salads and soups). you should try the chicken schnitzel, if you havent already. its probably my favorite dish on the menu right now. the meatloaf is also pretty tasty, even though i hate what they call it on the menu (not my mamas meatloaf...fucking pretentious).

yeah, theyve been changing their beers on tap pretty often lately. we used to have blue moon, then switched to sweaty betty. i think peroni was on the menu at some point. im guessing thats why the price went up, just selling better beer now. heh

the Q's menu is changing next week, i believe. i havent seen the new one yet, but i hear good things.

    another boulder addition:

    pizza colore
pearl street, between 13th and 14th streets (no website)
this is probably one of the top two pizza places in boulder, in my opinion. and by top i mean most reminds me of home (ny/nj)...which is really not an easy thing to accomplish. from what i read they have some creative pizza options. i just stick to the basic cheese slices. the cheese calzones are also really good. some decent sandwiches as well, the combo sandwich is a typical italian, but they have some good meats, so the final product is nice. they also make their own cannolis, but i havent tried them yet. from talking to the guys behind the counter, it sounds like the original ones started out on the east coast, central jersey or something? not sure...but that explains the quality a little. anyway, if youre craving a ny style slice, this is a good place to get it. open late on fridays and saturdays (till 2am).

the other place for a decent slice of pizza is:

    abo's pizza
2761 Iris Ave, right off of 28th st.
been there once, and it was good. however, pizza is all they have from what i could see. no sandwiches, no noting else that you'd find in a ny/nj pizzaria. just pizza. which is fine, because its quality.

by the way, anyone know of any decent middle eastern places in boulder/denver? i have the serious cravings for a good kabob. i know theres a pace called ali baba in golden, but is there anywhere else? middle eastern/persian/lebanes/mediterranean...??

It's 2 blocks from my apartment and the best Mediterranean I've had in Denver. ($)

and Marrakesh has an $8 lunch buffet that's pretty good

Oh the horror! That's a bummer, I loved the $2 beer thing. $3 is still good, but not nearly as good.

2 thumbs up to Izakaya Den.

Went there last weekend - the crispy tuna appetizer is awesome. I love the tapas set up and the mediterranean/japanese fusion dish we tried - a chicken and beet salad with sweet sauce- was excellent. good service too.

    Kathmandu, $$, Indian and Nepali.
110 North Jefferson St Nederland, 303-258-1169

    Great Indian, great buffet.
You can pretty much customize your meal to your liking. They know how to make a Vindaloo that will have you sweating buckets, yet maintains amazing flavor.
