Maybe he thinks he's Joe Namath.

i loved TFB's reaction to the whole thing. he didnt care that plaxico predicted a giants win, just that he thought the pats would only score 17.

Ask the Steeler fans.
This combined with the SI issue (and other tangibles), you can go ahead and put big money on the Pats and thank me later. I will be shocked if this game isn't over by the early 3rd quarter.

WTF. It seems like it has become taboo to do anything but praise the patriots. Why the FUCK not? I would say that he is pretty spot on in his comments. If you think the patriots need that for motivation you are wrong. They are a good team, they are not gods.
Courage + believe = life. Life is not about how many breaths you take. It's what you do with those breaths
The Pats will manufacture motivation out of anything available to them, no matter how innocuous the comments. Burress' saying that the Giants will win is far from innocuous, though.
As long as Belichick is coach in New England you won't hear one of the Pats say anything like "We're going to win" or even "I like our chances out there." I'm sure they'd like to, since they are all very competitive people and many of them have earned the right to be confident in big games. But not saying things like that has two functions- it doesn't provide any bulletin board material for their opponents, and it makes them even angrier when someone on another team makes comments like Burress did, because they can't respond in kind. Trust me, Rodney Harrison would love to grab a reporter's tape recorder and tell Burress exactly what he thinks is going to happen this Sunday, but he can't- so he has to sublimate his anger into his play.
Psy-ops, dude. Psy-ops.
I would have thought 19-0 would have been motivation enough.
These are professional athletes I have a hard time believing any Patriot player will be trying harder because of these comments. The only reason not to say it is to save face if your wrong. As far as bulletin board material I think its all B.S.
no, the Steelers that only beat the Dolphins by three.
but there's a difference between just flat beating a team and noticeably picking on a particular player the whole game. to the effect of him looking like he lost the game for the steelers.

I hope Plaxico runs over Rodney Harrison just like he did Al Harris and Bigby and the rest of the Packers D.
The Patriots better be ready for a brawl because NY is physical, I would not want to try to tackle Brandon Jacobs in the open field either, Teddy Bruschi better put some extra padding in his helmet or he may have another stroke.

You can't overlook motivation in games like this. All these guys are good athletes and can play, but (not to sound like a Successories poster) pride is an essential element to a winning team. The Ravens and Eagles D didn't have great seasons overall, but played very well against the Pats and their vaunted offense, because they had guys like Brian Dawkins and Ray Lewis who weren't going to give up that easily. Any edge the Patriots can get, they take (sometimes to a fault); no question they have discussed Burress' comments and didn't like them.
Given that these two teams played a month ago, I'd say the Pats are probably aware of that. I don't think of NY as having a particularly physical offensive or defensive line, though- the Pats' guys are way nastier.
bump.
Pretty close.
how you like your crow cooked you no nothing bitch?
Is "Just win, baby" code for something completely different?
Sure seems like it from here.
beeyotch.
Must not be too big an idiot he called it pretty damn close.
I think the locker room material comment, in retrospect, was a non-issue because the Pats clearly were overconfident and thought that the Giants would fold like a card tower in a hurricane. They did not even take the quote seriously enough to rally against it; the blew it off. "Oh those upstart Giants... how cute.. they think they can win."
And while Belichik (sp?) kept his team from talking to the press about their taunts/predictions/etc, they clearly did not take that lesson to heart as on the first couple of drives, evidently all that pent up trash talking just oozed out.
