Need to get Dust out of Camera Bag

I bought a camera bag that looks like it was dragged behind some photog's art-car all around burning man . I'm going to try to get the fine playa dust out of it. This is from Lowepro's website:

Q: How do I clean my Lowepro product?
A: Proper cleaning of all Lowepro products should be handled with care. We caution against use of any detergent and recommend mild soap. We recommend spot treating or hand washing with warm/cold water and mild soap, followed by hanging the item to dry.

This seems a little too mickey mouse for what I've got.

I'm thinking it's going to need a good flogging, and then maybe a little vacuuming action. After that, a good spray down. I'm afraid that If I just wash it, I'll make some mud.

    Any ideas?

From burning man website: A small dose of vinegar in your wash will get rid of playa dust. Stale playa is not a pleasant thing. Clean your stuff now.

I take stuff to burning man that is meant to be permanently playafied, but the few things I need to rescusitate get washed with diluted vinegar. The playa dust is a combination of silt or clay and alkaline precipitates (various salts), therefore the mildly acidic vinegar cuts the playa dust. Vinegar: the wonder cleaner!

Bummer dude. I still have playa dust lingering from 2 years ago. With the ash/dust storm here this weekend, started having b-man flashbacks for a moment. Good luck, depending on how much I paid for it I'd probably go for the beat the crap out of it and hose it method first or just buy a new one, as a dusty bag is not a good home for something that hates dust and is also very expensive.

I didn't spend much on it, so no big deal if it can't handle a lick'n. If it can, . I agree about protecting camera gear in a dusty bag. Not a good idea.

We have a front loader washer that is super gentle, I wash everything in it and never worry about it getting mucked up, the wife does all her delicates too. laundromats have front loaders that don't agitate the load i'd run it through once or twice and go for the vinegar soak in between or add to the wash cycle.

Wash it on Cold/gentle with a little Oxyclean, then tumble it on gentle in the dryer for a bit after hang-drying it to get the dust & lint out. Works for me w/my PortaBrace stuff.

After beating off...the dust. I washed it gently with oxyclean and vinegar. The public laundromat was the perfect place to do it. It looks near new! Thanks.
