    "Killadelphia"

That's the headline CNN used when talking about the ridiculous murder rate.

Too many animals in one place and they kill each other. Laws of Nature. Mankind isn't smart enough to figure that out.

2 years ago, a friend of mine, a Philadelphia Police Officer was shot dead while responding to an armed robbery with hostages.

My brother in law is a Phila homicide detective, he more than doubles his salary in overtime every year.

There are fifteen year olds capping one another after an argument.

Everyone packs in Philly including my 88 year old father who shoots twice a month at the local range to keep his skills up.

I am in the city at least 3 times a week doing work in some of the worst areas there. I have to get in & out by 10 am or all bets are off. Everyone I know who does what I do for a living is licensed to carry. I am not and don't want to be.

Just as bad but not talked about is the armed robbery statistics.
    Rapes are also up.

Philly government is corrupt. The mayor is only interested in lining his own pockets with his well documented "pay to play" schemes. On two separate occasions, the feds tried to bring his house down and each time, the mayor called on the national "race mongers" to scream and holler until they went away.

I have been safer in some of the worlds worst 3rd world shit holes (Zimbabwe for one) than I am in Philly.

For all the gun carrying here, I can not recall one occasion where an armed civilian saved his life by shooting it out with a bad guy.

I have great situational awareness and try not to box myself in anywhere.

Whats sad is my wife and I have not been in town to have dinner in many years. Most of those I know who left many years ago, will not go back for any reason. This contributes to the downfall of what was, only fifteen years ago, a great city.

As the inner city population continues to expand, the crime is now spilling over it's borders. Surrounding townships have been forced to ramp up police patrols in an effort to repel the invaders back into the city.

It is a grim situation with no hope for improvement.

But everyone has a gun--NRA tells me that's the formula for a safe city! WTF? What about all those stories of people shooting their way to safety, foiling crimes with their guns, yadda yadda...

Hopefully some of these mayors will be successful in suing the gun shops that make situations like this possible. Completely disgusting that this is what we've come to in the U.S.

In high school, on my way into Franklin Field for the Penn Relays, I saw my first chalk outline for a dead body. But we won our heat and I got to say hi to Bill Cosby, so it balanced out.

yes, forget about going after criminals because that's too much work. let's go after those evil guns, then lets go after banning cars because of drunk drivers. before this gets into a gun control thread, just remember... Philly blows and that's that. Remember when the mayor firebombed the Move group and burnt down a city block? That was rad.

No, we go after both criminals and guns, and the criminals who sell/run the guns. Hard to make gun laws work when you've got an easy supply from those stupid states without gun laws.

And yeah, I remember seeing the MOVE thing go down, that never really made sense to me at all. Never before nor since have I heard of a city PD dropping a (potentially-to-actually) incendiary device on a house from a helicopter to deal with the people inside (I think that's what happened, anyway).
Damn good cheesesteak sandwiches there, though. I'll risk the gunshot to get one of those.

(in my most intimidating, Charlton Heston impersonation) you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold... dead... hands.

How about just putting up a bunch of signs that say Gun Free Zone? That will stop the criminals from taking their evil tools of death on premise. Solved.

Now, those cheesesteaks give me nothing but heartburn and me and fellow Citizens for a Heartburn Free Amurica will try our darndest to ban them.

    Think of the children!

granted, Move was a violent, horrible group of criminals that "hunted" citizens of Philly and had to be stopped.

but you also may remember Frank Rizzo, the Philly Police Comish at the time. He didn't put up with shit and outfitted the Philly cops in storm trooper leather, knee-high boots and shoot-to-kill orders. That was the safest the city had been since colonial days.

unfortunately - for your Philly denziens - your town is now run by feel-good politicos who worry about what Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton might say about their next big anti-crime measures... namely, going after CRIMINALS who commit CRIMES. what a concept

so instead of blaming the person who pulled the trigger, your comsih and mayor now blame the inanimate object. brilliant!

What else do you expect from your Mayor who declared, "The Brothers and Sisters run this town now..."? What a racist POS!

question... did the availability of bricks cause the LA riots??? Guns don't cause crime... scumbags do.

I used to work with juvenile delinquents from Philadelphia. I talked to many about guns and here are some things I found out over the years:

    - yes, pistols are easy to get ahold of-mostly junk stuff like Taurus especially

    - I never interviewed a kid who bought a gun legally (or had an adult buy one) they were all black market guns

    - contrary to what the Democrats say, they DID NOT use AK-47s or military rifles for crimes or gang violence. You cannot conceal a rifle thus they have virtually no advantage in Philly

    - there were two general uses for attacking gang rivals with pistols:
    a) spray and pray from a distance (emptying the entire magazine)
    or
    b) walking up coldly, surprising a rival and shooting him in the face at point blank range.

    * Other than this, there seemed to be zero emphasis on accuracy. In many of the stories, it sounded like they were more excited about how much noise the gun made by rapid-firing wildly at a front porch or car, rather than taking careful shots.

    - it was common to meet kids who had been shot by 9mm or a .22 multiple times and had lived (I saw medical reports and scars)

    - I never met a kid who had been shot with a .45 and lived

I don't know when the last time you where here but you don't shit about Philadelphia. It's 10 and I'm still at work and when ever the fuck I leave I don't have to think twice about being safe because everyone knows where the shootings are taking place and it ain't center city. Look at the 2006 murder statistics by location at the inquirer.

    http://inquirer.philly.com/graphics/murders_map/

Second, sort by race and that tells you a whole lot about what this is all about. The vast majority of this is black on black crime and probably 50% of it is people that know each other, so it isn't like Suzy Chapstick is getting blasted at the Terminal Market out of no where.

Philly is not a ghetto but certain areas are real shitty. It has always been that way and if stay out of those areas you are fine. I can't think of another major city that is so segregated, it really is a city of neighborhoods.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

You're spot on, Armada. But are they no less victims because of their race? They're still dead.

Philly remains one of my top 10 cities... evar. But I knew where to go and where not to. But I have zero tolerance for people vicimizing anyone, let alone "their own".

    Peace!

Ummmmm.... actually, Moonbeam, that's what Marines are supposed to do.

Like you would have actually "complemented him on his awsome sticker" without pissing and shitting yourself in the process.
