Well, I'm gonna be in Austin for three nights (W-F) next month.

    Any suggestions?

I think you've been out West too long. Barton's cool (really cold) and gets closed on occasion 'cause of pollution, but it's not a hot spring.
ya know, beer is far more than just the world's most perfect breakfast food.

If you are into the whole bar scene, go out on 6th street Thursday night. I don't really know what you're into, but there is something for everyone within walking distance. I like Maggie Mae's for $2 domestics and wells on Thursdays. Then you should head over to 311 (the bar not the band). They have a really good motown band every Thursday I believe.

Go to Taco Shack for breakfast tacos.

Pick up a copy of the Austin Chronicle at just about any convenience store for that week's scene. It comes out every Thursday and is the best source for events and live acts playing in & around town, . (You can also view it online here: http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/ ) If you like live music, you should have no difficulty finding entertainment you will enjoy. Lots of good food, too. The weather should be great by then. Sixth Street before/after a UT game is something to do at least once.

Oh, no offense to rideit, but I would pass on the NY Deli. The best "NY deli" in town is probably Katz's.

    katz's is the shiz.

Just do what rideit said, if you like to climb/ boulder ... Reimers is a cool place to go, something you won't ever see in texas anywhere else anyhow. Cliff diving at Pace bend is fun as well.

Austin is a pretty cool place. Definitely check out reimer's if possible; I'd come down to give you the tour if I didn't have class. The UT bar/music hangouts are also well worth checking out, especially on a thursday or friday. Enjoy....

You are correct.... Katz's is on 6th street on the western side of downtown. Not my thing, but if you want to visit a deli in Austin, this is the place to go.

Are you single and interested in college chicks with fake IDs? If so, go to Cain Abel's in West Campus. You will NOT be disappointed.

    See my first reply above

    I got into Austin yesterday.

Last night I grabbed a few beers at the Posse (Posse East if you lookin' for directions). Sam Adams Oktoberfest on tap, $1.50 pints and it was 1am on a Wednesday. I almost questioned the Happy Hour prices at that hour but decided against it.

This morning I bought 8 breakfast tacos from the Tamale House on Airport (as mentioned.) 5 bacon egg and cheese tacos, 2 potato and bacon and 1 bean egg and cheese. Total cost: $9.20

Now I'm hanging out at my parent's house waiting for my buddy to arrive and tonight it'll probably be Mexican Martinis at Trudy's, the BEST drink in the land, in my opinion.

ACL looks to be pretty good this year and right now the temp is hovering in the low 90s so it is actually tolerable.
