Why won't my iPod shut down?

:/ Kind of annoying as I hold down the play button and the backlight turns off the iPod still stays powered up. What gives?

dude your technology is trying to tell you that you need to simplify your life and not take so much shit with you to the old world. Or...something like that.

iPods never actually turn off. After a few minutes on PAUSE it turns off the display and pretends to sleep.

There are different versions of iPod software out there and they behave a little differently.

Try a reset? Hold down the play (or is it menu?) and center button until you see the apple logo. Takes approx. 10 seconds.

My old iPod would do weird shit every so often, but it would clear itself up after I reset it. My newer iPod does less weird shit, but I have had to reset it a couple times.

edit: whether it actually stays "on" or not, the display should turn off, not just the backlight.
