    Moving to Utah... but where?

I gave my notice at work and am moving to Utah. But I know squadoosh about the area and not sure where to re-locate. My ex moved to Tooele with our daughter, which seems like a shit hole to me. But it looks like SLC is not too far of a drive so I can see my daughter. The key for me is to live within an easy drive to Tooele and also the local resorts (one of which I'll likely be working at).

Any areas the SLC maggs recommend? Or recommend to avoid? Do people commute from SLC who work in Park City? I'll be doing most of the legwork via phone and intraweb and will prolly need to settle on a place to rent sight unseen.

And yes, I know I owe you photos of my ex-gf's new boobs. Although my current gf did volunteer to pose for me topless, with one of my rifles tastefully covering her nipples (she likes guns ). Will that do if the current plan to re-hook-up fails with crazy-new-boobs-girl?

    Forget Utah move to Colorado

There are so many things to avoid in Utah. I would recommend Colorado for your trek out west. You can live on the front range and have access to more resorts that are at a higher elevation than those in Utah.

    Also Coloradoans are cool.

plus they drive really fast (if you are into that)

You'll have Fruita all to youself

Hell I might even move to Colorado.

Nice try. But you'll be stuck with me in the very near future. I promise not to bring anyone... except for the really cool real estate developer from California I met yesterday.

I just moved to Utah about 6 months ago. I settled in Sandy. I utilized one of those "studio" apartment hotel for 2 weeks while I found a rental. I would NOT rent sight unseen.

Avenues, SugarHouse, 9th and 9th if you want more of a city, nonmorman vibe. Sandy is cheap and closer to skiing but is infested with large mormon families (not a bad thing if you are settling down) and chain stores (think typical suburbia). I have lived in both areas (crrently in the aves) and think that most out of staters would enjoy the first three options more. I know many maggots live in sandy and enjoy it but it is a pain to drive downtown for concerts, bars etc. Park city is very liberal and the commute is 30-40 min to downtown. DONT MOVE TO TOOLE.

Have you thought about asking your cool real estate developer friend if he knows how to use the search function?
I think there may be a thread or 20 on this subject.
I would tend to disagree about Nests assesment of Sandy being cheap too.

Yes, after recently buying a house in the last 2 months, Sandy was not cheap.

A Message to Parvo from His New Neighbors To Be

Note for the record...as far as I know, Parvo doesn't suck. I just thought the LDS thing was funny...kinda like being flipped off by Santa Claus

Great idea, thanks. Is that a Residence Inn? I just checked one out and it was kind of spendy. But for a temp. solution, I likee. Ideally I get a job where they cover my relocation. Most do these days anyway.

The above seems to imply that you quit your job and have chosen to move to Utah, jobless. Utah

Full disclosure. My wife works for a SLC based corporation and chooses to live elsewhere (Tahoe). We were offered relocation and would have either picked Park City else the Avenues in SLC if there was even any consideration of moving. There isn't.

Parvo - don't listen to the Mormon Hoards horror stories. I've never had any problems with them. Then again, I've never lived in the "upscale" neighborhoods.

I think there's an Extended Stay America in Sandy by auto mall.

My ex's folks are big time Mormon muckety-mucks, so I know what to expect. I was even married in Bigamy Young's house, the Beehive. Plus, I lived in so. Utah for many years (Brian Head, where there are no Mormons), so I know the deal on them. I even look like a Mo', so I'll be just fine.

I just never spent much time in SLC, and didn't pay attention to much when I was there.

I'm all over the Extended Stay - thanks!

On an anonymous message board you can't believe everything you read. And everything you learn may not be true.

First part of your statement -

Second part is wrong as well. We go to concerts all the time and it's never been a hassle. If you think it's a pain don't ever move to Northern VA because then you'll really get a lot of sand in your vag.

I think I used Homestead Suites on Redwood Rd in like Taylorsville...was way better than renting sight unseen. Wasn't the prettiest place, but not bad for what it was...I wasnt there long.

    Welcome.

This has to be a joke right??? Sarcasm??? Utah has the LOWEST unemployment rate in the entire country right now...there are soo many jobs its not even funny....

Sandy extended stay was one of the more pricey options. I am positive that the Homestead on Redwood is the cheapest option available. Not bad...pretty centrally located.

Oh yeah and dont worry one bit about the mormons....its not an issue.

6 months in Utah pretty much makes you an old-timer, right? To generalize and say "mormons aren't an issue" is about as poor a generalization as "mormons ruins everything".

Its not a black and white issue at all. My wife made a bunch of friends at work at the hospital, only to have 3 of them give her books of mormon as going-away gifts because they all "saw a beautiful light" inside of her that "they wanted to save". So months of friendship culminated with a fucking recruiting effort. Did it cramp our style or piss on our way of life? No. But it certainly made her question every positive interaction she had with "those folks" during our time there.

Sorry about the rant, and no offense - but all the kids who live near the canyons, work from home/at the resorts/at bars and restaurants, and spend their time skiing and playing with other transplants really shouldn't be commenting on how the pervasise culture generally affects the people who actually INTERACT with it.

Yeah im no "kid".....I dont work at a resort./restaurant/ bar...I have a real job...work with real people, both mormon and not...ALLL my neighbors are mormon saave for maybe one (yeah I live in Sandy right on Dimple Dell)....I work directly with a very nice guy thats mormon....so I think I am allowed to comment on what I have seen, as I DO INTERACT WITH IT EVERYDAY....IM NOT HERE JUST TO SKI..Im here to make a life for me and my family...

Before you move here EVERYONE acts like thats all there is here...in fact.. greater SLC is like 60% mormon 40% non and changing EVERY DAY..

Dont let the experience you and your wife had taint someone else's experience....just cause you struck out doesnt mean everyone will...oh an NO OFFENSE...
