Thomas Kinkade plans appearance, auction of sketch

    IF YOU GO:
    Thursday, October 04, 2007

Wildly popular artist Thomas Kinkade finds himself inspired being in Pennsylvania.

"As I wander around rural Pennsylvania, I see such elements of history that it allows my artistic heart to take flight," Kinkade said. "Families have lived in the same neighborhood or often in the same home for many generations."

Kinkade makes his lone state appearance this year on Saturday at the Hilton Harrisburg. A limited-edition canvas will be auctioned; it will feature an original Kinkade sketch on the opposite side of the canvas, which he will create live at the event. He did the same thing recently in Boston; the resulting sketch raised $43,000 for charity during a four-minute auction.

I have three Kincade paintings in one of my condos in Breck. Should I have alarms placed on them or should I just shoot myself?

I view Kinkade as a craftsman, not an artist. That is all.

Where I Was From by National Book Award winner, journalist, novelist, and screenwriter Joan Didion is a great mixture of autobiography, history, journalism, and essays on California as paradise squandered. In it she devotes a chapter to trashing Kinkade.

My sister had some Kinkade post cards on her table. This can't be my relative, I thought. I questioned about the cards, feigning ignorance..it was not a stretch. She claimed the artist died. I breathed a sigh of relief, so it was of interest that to me that Kinkade is making an appearance in PA. I googled to see if he is truly dead. I'm still not sure, but this link came up.

Your wifes cockgarage needs to be serviced, you should get to it before some else does.
Since then it's been a book you read in reverse, so you understand less as the pages turn.

I will admit, as much as I love Kinkade, I was pretty skeptical when I heard he was doing a movie. However, I'm pretty psyched that Peter O'Toole is starring in it and I imagine it will be pretty good if he agreed to do it and got on board with the project. Looks like it will be first released in Iceland, but will hopefully get a US release in time for Christmas.

not sure how this year old thread ended up getting bumped...

I took kincaide and 16 of his family members rafting this year and they were slightly rude, very high-maintenance and didn't tip any of the three river guides. I don't even think any of them swam...

oh, and his art is crap

just came across this announcement that Kinkade's film will be released on blu-ray which will only add more value to his artwork. Kind of a lame film (embarrassed to admit i got the DVD), but kind of neat in that it's also some what autobiographical of his life.
Anyways, thought I'd share since i remember some of you like his art as well.

It was about this time, in 2006, when aggrieved ex-employees began testifying in court cases about Kinkade's odd, "Jekyll-and-Hyde" personal behavior, rivetingly documented by the Los Angeles Times. Once, Kinkade allegedly heckled Siegfried & Roy during a drunken binge in Las Vegas. "I think it was Roy or Siegfried or whatever had a codpiece in his leotards," one former Kinkade employee testified. "And so when the show started, Thom just started yelling, 'Codpiece, codpiece,' and had to be quieted by his mother and [wife] Nanette." (Picture our hero surrounded by menacing, Creamsicle-colored cats and two whip-wielding Spandex devils. Title: "Lion's Den.")

He allegedly flipped off a colleague's wife who tried to help him when he fell off a bar stool drunk, and "palmed" a woman's breast at a publicity event in Indiana while saying "these are great tits!" And then there was the time he supposedly relieved himself on a Winnie the Pooh statue in a Disney hotel in Anaheim, Calif., while saying, "This one's for you, Walt." (Imagine Ashdown Forest at daybreak, and Winnie is drenched from a spontaneous shower; Tigger, Eeyore flee in terror. Title: "Golden Moments.") When asked about this last story, Kinkade conceded in testimony that "there may have been some ritual territory marking going on, but I don't recall it."

Bumping this classic thread for Kincade getting jailtime. Sounds like commonlaw's anecdotes may have been true.

Just ruined my day, but maybe a silver lining. No doubt this increases the value of our extensive collection.

just a warning to any of you who own Kinkade paintings - I had 6 pieces appraised this morning and they have gone down in value from what I paid for them. i figured this was a good time of the year to try and sell some pieces since winter and skiing is upon us but found that they are worth less than I paid for them!!!! sucks!!

so don't plan on selling them if you have them, i think they reflect the general state of our economics right now. most artwork has probably gone down in value the last few years. like my IRA but i'm surprised that these particular Kinkade paintings I bought more than 10 years ago and even now they are still worth less than I paid for them!!!!! i guess I will hold on to them and if I they don't seem at go up in value I will pass them on to my three boys. they love them too. cheers everyone and happy skiing!!
