    Sandisk CF cards?

Im thinking of getting another CF card. I am looking at the Sandisk website for answers to my questions and am coming up empty. What the heck is the difference between the Ultra IIs, the Extreme IIIs, and the Extreme IVs? Speed only? And how much of a difference is 10MB/s vs 20MB/s? Will I even notice? Id like to go on the cheap, so Im thinking Ultra II, unless someone says otherwise. I think the one Im using now is an Ultra II and it seems to work fine...

I'd always buy the fastest card if you are shooting action... and it keeps the card good for your next camera.

The EXTREME series are supposedly built to a better tolerance for heat/cold. They also come with image recovery software.

I use Sandisk Extreme exclusively and have great luck.

There's a current Costco coupon, good through June 10th, for $7 off the 2GB ultra II SD, and $10 off 4 Gb SD High Cap Ultra II.

Costco is not always as cheap at web-ordering, but buying in store and no shipping these might be good prices.

Edit: I see the coupon says "also available at costco.com"

    "Thats fucking interesting, man."

Is this gospel? I mean, this makes it sound like buying anything more than a 10MB/s card is a waste of money, assuming that I'm using a 20D and I dont care if it takes me two minutes to download to my computer instead of one.

Thanks for all the posts, guys. I was going to order off Amazon--they have better prices than Costco (where I originally was going to buy)...

if this is the card you referring to on Amazon, then the same is $5.50 more at a Costco store I pass by, called 'em to check price. But Costco includes a USB card reader packaged with the item, 'zon doesn't.

Prices at Costco stores in different parts of the country can vary by a few $$ for items like this. Worth a call to local store.

Good call, although Im probably ordering an extra battery for the 20D and an external hard drive, too, so I think Ill stick with Amazon.

This is the one I was looking at:

Huh? Their price for the Sandisk 4Gb we're talking is more than twice what Amazon and Costco are asking.

Me too. Reasons for using the Extreme series include:

    - Extended temperature testing (-13º F to 185º F)
    - Shock-vibration tested (RTV silicon)
    - Water resistance
    - Included RescuePRO Deluxe™ data recovery Software

I have never, ever, experienced a SanDisk Extreme CF card failure.

^ Ah yes. I've been looking an SD card the other day, and read SD where I saw CF.

The 4Gb Sandisk SDHC card seems to be a better deal at Costco, just had someone snag one for me for $49.99.

Unfortunately I need a CF... (at least I think thats the distinction between what Im looking at vs what youre looking at [SD])

<edit> thanks for posting that--it made me look up the difference between CF, SD, and SDHC, and I found this cool link:

You can use SD cards in CF slots if you have an adapter... useful when you have an SLR and a smaller pocket camera so they can both use the same SD cards.

Also, if you shoot a lot of shit, the increase in download-to-computer time is worth it. Of course, then you need a high-speed reader... yea.

USB readers are pretty cheap, no? I saw this one at Best Buy/Circuit City for $15. USB 2.0 speed, and it looks like it reads from all current card types without needing a separate adapter or socket.

it's not a CF card reader. and judging by the title of the thread, i think he's still after cf cards/readers.

You're right. I keep missing the CF in all these.

Also, USB 2.0 readers are not all the same speed. Some are barely faster than a USB 1.0 reader, some are really fast, and others are somewhere in between.

Do some research if you want to be sure your reader can take advantage of a faster card.
