Of course I remember-how u doing?... Yeah you need to get some shots of the Courtes uploaded mate. No excuses. Shame you missed out today, the Cosmiques run was candidate for one of the best of the season personally

What an incredible day of skiing. It does make me cry in agony tho at the April we had and how it could have been so so different. Tomorrow snow levels going up from 1900 to 2600, Friday sunny...... One last pow attack Tom?

    Cool

Man, you guys are so lucky to be there! I have some clues.....

Here's some of our local stuff in NH that I've been doing since Cham....

Best Ski Photos in Presidentials 2006-2007

It's pretty good, but not quite the Glacier Rond or les Cosmiques....only 300-500m of high-angle (40-50&#186 descent and 4-5 km of up to 35º to ski out.

    For those that don't know,
it is dumping out at altitude (2000m+).

I'm thinking freshies in May is not such a bad idea.
Might be out there tomorrow getting some.

    Anyone anywhere in particular?

    something interesting I found

"Stats published on the Courchevel website indicate that total snowfall this season was roughly 9% below the 4-year average at 1850m.

At 2700m, snowfall was greater; it was just 2% below-average.

    At 1850m:

    Dec 2006 was very poor (-43% below-average).

    Jan 2007 was poor (-25%).

    Feb 2007 was excellent (+73%).

    Mar was average (+1%).

    Apr was exceptionally weak (-93%).

In short, 2006 / 2007 was an average season up high, but a below-average season down low. "

I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anybody can reccomend some good skiing daytripable from Grenoble, FR. I'm a student who spent the semester over here and looking to ski one more time before finals and heading home to the states. Any help is greatly appreciated

If you're talking about now, I don't think there will be much open nearby except perhaps Les Deux Alpes. You could just about get to Tignes or Cham in a day with a car and an early start. If you're up for touring check out www.pistehors.com for ideas - has lots of routes near Grenoble. The guy who runs that site posts on here as Davidof so you could try a pm to him

What kind of bullshit statistic is the 4 year average?
    4 year??

10 year may be a useful measure, 20 or 30 would be better.

    Averages:
I was getting car insurance (on the phone)
She: "What will your average milage be next year sir?"
Me: "What do you mean "average milage next year"? You mean what milage do I expect to do next year?!
OK, I was being a bit pedantic, I admit it.
She: "No sir, I'm asking for your average for next year"
Me: "But I can't have an average for just one year. Do you mean my average over the last few years?"
I now know she has no clue....why couldn't I just let it drop?
She: "I'm sorry sir but if you can't tell me your average for next year then we can't quote you"
Me: "12 thousand miles, but you do understand this is not an average don't you?"
She: "Thank you for the average sir......"

Looked into the Cosmiques, Ice rimmeling/windcrust on top of unknown soft snow. Decided to ski Vraie Vallee to Envers exit. Should have stepped up to the Plate.

First coulpe of pitches just heavy ass snow

The the whole world started to part company with the mountain

Very scary when one member of the group falls every third turn. And another goes from crash to crash, no turns and 30 secconds to 5 min to get up each time.

Soggy but almost covered down to the ladders.

Yes it was. Although there´s no going around that the snow was sketchy. I´d say the sketchiest day of the season.

But there´s also no going around that today was fun

i would not go that far. it was sketchy but kind of predictable. no denying the powder fever all around though.

what i learned today: don't slow down to look what your slough is doing

i am not sure if you saw but two guys skied the first chute from the top (which was obviously wind loaded) and the whole thing tore out (once again), they were rather lucky not to go for a ride over the rocks.

^^oh, and nice picture. he is such a slut

God damn, why do you Euro maggots have to torture everyone else with your late-late-season pictures?

BTW: klar, my plans changed. I'm in Austria only for 2 days in June, but back later in July. Are you in South America then?

Sorry , lived in whistler the winter of '98-'99 I know what heavy snow is.

This was the sort of concrete that is almost set.

When you ski it fast you leave a trench like on a cartoon. When you try to ski slow you don't move. When you try to walk you sink to your waist and move 10 feet in 20 min. When you try and lift your ski it weighs 50lbs.

    Nice La Grave pics!

Winter unfortunately arrived about five months too late it seems. But I'm glad some people are soaking it up.

We considered doing the glaciar rond Friday but in the end went back to Barbarine and had an awesome day climbing another 250m 6b route... in the interest of sanity and for the love of climbing I am trying to pretend there is nothing decent left to ski...
