According to the NWS, Truckee will see a high of 41 F on Wednesday and 46 on Thursday. I voted for 6" at lake level, but that's overnight. It will turn to rain during the day and turn everything to slush. Snow level is expected to be around 8,000 ft during the day.
Let me know how it goes. I'll pass. I don't like getting rained on when I'm skiing.
I think it's a little homoerotic how much danhucker likes poles. He's a pole troll!
Snow levels should drop in plenty of time to provide a good dump of snow for all. Snow showers continue on a colder Thursday. Friday could be an epic spring day with mostly sunny skies as the storm moves out and weak high pressure noses in.
ummmmm, i think you are wrong, but yeah. stay inside, i'll be out playing in the snow, i mean rain.
Only pussies are affraid to ski in the rain, what r u going to melt? Anyone whos been here for a couple of years know that this time of year the hardly ever sees snow but the upper mountain can get ppounded and the lower will get and inch. So please stay in Blue Canyon, we don't want to see your lame tracks ruining are picture perfect tracks.

As I've said over the past months, Tahoe should get pounded since I am leaving town this Saturday. This has been a fairly reliable barometer for the past two years.
Every man dies. Not every man lives.
You don’t stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing.
Fear of rain has nothing to do with it. Getting pummeled with snow is fine. Getting soaked by rain sucks. I've been rain soaked enough times to know how it feels when you're on the chair getting hammered by wind as you're heading up the hill trying to escape the rain and get a few marginal turns in before the snow turns to slop again. Staying dry is important in bad weather. Didn't you mom ever tell you that? It's the same as making sure you don't sweat when you're hiking.
I was skiing for several years before there was such a thing as a snowboard. At this point, it's all about quality over quantity for me. Obviously you prefer it the other way around, which is fine. Either way, this entire season is a wash, and I'd rather ski under clear skies at this point because the snow is going to SUCK ASS regardless. Have fun skiing in the rain on Wednesday/Thursday. Don't expect no 2' corn dump either. This aint Utah, bro. I'll be up there on Friday around 10AM when the ice softens up and the weather is clear, and I'll be outta there before the gapes show up Saturday.
mammoth is 11,000' at the summit and it is still great and with new pow...well, we should start seeing all the keep tahoe blue stickers soon....

As with any long term weather forecast, I'll believe it when I see it. A lot can change between now and Wednesday. I predict that most of the rain is going to either go north, or the snow level will stay at 8,000 ft for the duration.
Those of you who will be skiing on Wednesday/Thursday, you are going to Kirkwood, right? If you stay in the Tahoe basin you're going to get rained on.
Eh, fuck Mammoth. Too many LA assholes. If you think Tahoe is bad because of all the Bay Area fuckheads, that's NOTHING compared to the lame Mammoth crowds.
To be fair, Mammoth is my 2nd most favorite place to ski in CA next to Kirkwood. I will only ski there on a weekday though.
If this storm is as cold as the NWS is making it out to be, you Mammoth locals are going to get the best of it later this week.
Nah, I just have better things to do than ski on bad snow while getting rained on at the same time. CA has completely sucked this year, and even Utah is not far behind. I went there twice, ruined my favorite pair of Volkl's, and didn't get one face shot at all in '06-'07.
I cancelled my classes and ditched work during the week back in mid-March after Kirkwood got the 10' dump over the weekend. The snow was sticking at 1,000 ft which would lead you to believe that the conditions would be the best the CA has to offer, right? Wrong. The water content was still close to 10%. Kirkwood was okay, but by no means the best I've ever seen it.
Face it. The snow in CA sucks. I'd move back to Utah if those fucking mo mo's would allow medi-pot, but we all know it aint gonna happen.
I am forecasting an increase in subarus and toyotas with keep tahoe blue stickers being seen in mammoth, especially since there is a secret early trout season on...

BISHOP – What if they had a trout opener and no one came?
Well, almost no one ventured up Highway 395 for yesterday's early, early trout opener on sections of the Upper Owens River, all of Hot Creek that is public and the East Walker River, east and below Bridgeport Reservoir.
Advertisement Nearly 3 feet of some of the season's best snow had just dumped on Mammoth, and the worst storms to hit the Eastern Sierra this winter had just passed. Fishermen were greeted with freezing air temperatures (minus-8 degrees in the morning in some areas around Hot Creek) and snow-covered banks and roads.
Confusion was the big bite of the day as anglers and even shop owners along the Highway 395 corridor struggled with this new mini-opener. It was confusing because tomorrow marks the regular Southern Inyo County Early Opener for waters in Independence and south, and April 28 is the traditional Eastern Sierra trout opener for waters north of Independence. Yesterday was the special opener for catch-and-release, zero-limit fishing. Totally confused? Many here were.
“When we didn't see any other fishermen by 9 a.m. we thought we messed up and actually called Fish and Game from the river to make sure we weren't breaking any laws,” said Gary Conway, 60, who drove seven hours with his fishing buddy, Dennis Stevens, 60, from Solvang to fish the Upper Owens River. “The woman we talked to was confused, too, and had to look it up.”
Controversy also surrounded this early opener as ranch owners such as Tim Alpers and law enforcement officials such as Mono County Sheriff and coroner Rick Scholl voiced concerns. They wondered why no Department of Fish and Game officials contacted local stakeholders before changing the regulations this past December.
Alpers is concerned about the impact on spawning trout and trespassing issues on his ranch and other properties on the Upper Owens. Scholl wondered how many search-and-rescue operations would be needed for fishermen not accustomed to fishing in freezing temperatures and driving on snow-covered roads. Both plan to be at the Fish and Game Commission in July in Bridgeport when the Commission vowed to revisit the issue.
This catch-and-release fishing or zero-take wasn't an issue for Conway and Stevens in four hours on the Upper Owens.
“We saw one fish rise,” Stevens said.
They fished the Upper Owens River above Benton Bridge, a section that runs from the bridge upstream to Highway 395 and includes part of Deadman Creek downstream from Highway 395. This is the same area that from April 28 to Nov. 15 allows anglers to keep two trout per day, but the trout must be under 16 inches in total length. All fish greater than 16 inches must be released, and the same tackle regulations of artificial lures with barbless hooks apply. So, the same water has different regulations within a two-month period. No wonder folks are confused.
That's why Art Lawrence, a former DFG Lt. game warden now working part time in the Bishop office, was out switching fishing regulation signs as fishermen continued to arrive.
Martin Smith of Mammoth walked four miles of the Upper Owens above Benton's Crossing and didn't see one trout.
Smith said there's a blue wing olive hatch from around noon to 1:30 p.m. every day on the Lower Owens, and dry fly fishing is incredibly good for that stretch.
There were only a handful of fly fishermen working Hot Creek.
Lenny Stahl, 25, of Lake Arrowhead shut down his motorsports parts business and came up with his engineer, Nick Muñoz, 29. Stahl tied into a hard-fighting rainbow that he finessed with his ultralight, 2-weight rod and 4-pound tippet. The estimated 5-pound rainbow, a beautiful wild fish, measured 23 inches. It hit an egg fly.
“I really don't understand why they opened these waters early, but it's all right with me,” Stahl said as he released the rainbow. “You don't see me complaining.”
Rick Gieser at Ken's Sporting Goods in Bridgeport knew of six fishermen who ventured out in morning air that dropped to 6 below zero yesterday along the East Walker River. Flows there just increased from 22 cubic feet per second to 40 cfs, and are rising.
Gieser said fishermen reported good fishing for a couple of quality brown trout, but mostly caught rainbows on size 16 Mercer's Midgling nymphs in root beer color and size 14 and 16 red San Juan worms.
