    Coomba

Is this a midseason launch like k2 usually do?

Anyone know when they show up, and how much $ they will be?

I will have to get me a pair of around 180cm, around 100mm wide and light for touring this spring/summer, and this looks like it could be what I'm looking for.

If anyone have something similar sized skis to get rid off, I might be interested. Let me know...

K2 made some for SIA but it's a ski from next years line. They have a MSRP of $800...

seen and flexed two pairs yesterday in verb. very light (maybe the lightest ski i've had in hand for that size..... but actually who knows...), nice soft flex quite close to the seth. both the riders (on fritschi freerides) were very happy, albeit one (a verb guide and a very strong skier) said they were a bit too short for him

Who was the guide? A big Swedish fellow with dark hair? When I was last in Verbier I saw him on them - was sure I know him from somewhere but can't remember his name.

The skis I saw looked like a rebadged Apache Chief. It would be nice (yep, I'm sentimental) if K2 are doing more than just rebadging a ski with Doug's name on it (although I did see Coombs on Apache Chiefs a load so it might not be "wrong" as such...)

ciao Al, of the two guys I saw on coomba, one was the K2 importer for europe (well, possibly biased about his very enthusiastic comments ), the guide was john falkiner (you most likely know him... one of the old time telemark guru in town). Coomba actually look as rebadged apache chief, but as soon as you handle them you immediately understand they are totally different skis... much, much lighter and with a softer flex... so light that they might do not like ice or hard snow, but this is pure speculation. guess the swedish guide you meet on coomba was jimmy (ouch I do not remember his second name...)

Got the shop to weigh them before mounting.

They are 3870grams in the 181 lenght, so really happy about that.

Will report back how they ski, as soon as I get them on snow

Well... just got mine, and they have traditional camber. About the same as my Mantras. They have also no rocker (like its teletwin Antipiste supposedly got) but a normal tip ala Rossi.

And a big heads up regarding size, K2 still havent calibrated its measuring system. They say 181 cm, but they are almost 185 when measured. I am clueless why they can say they are only 181... maybe they dont count the tip
(I knew the pistols etc were longer than stated, but then I thought they did not measure the tail)

Regarding stiffness, they´re a bit softer than the Mantra. I would say about a soft BRO round, only a smidgen stiffer in the tail, and softer in tip.

I was thinking about using these as only a touring ski... but guess they will be my powder ski as well. They are almost a cm wider than the Mantra, and its shows.

Hopefully they will se powder soon, but looks like I will get them on the hardpack this weekend for a test.

very interesting, thanks! I had them in hands during a lift ride toward the col de gentianes.... so may be the camber expires with altitude :-) just kiddin.... I would be surprised to read that they ski like the mantras, because of a radically different construction and weight..... please provide feedback!

... uh, I forgot that the sticks I had in hands were actually a pre-release this K2 guy got at the beginning of the winter (he already had 40 days on those)

K2 always sizes based on actual running length, not ski length.

most skis are measured flat along the base from tip to tail. (ie the curved length)

k2 measures from tip to tail with out the tape touching the ski. (ie. the actual length)

^^^ The "curved length" of the 06/07 189 Seth measures 4 cm longer due to the big twins.

I measured height of ski... from floor to tip of ski, and it was still 184. when following the base its a bit more.

So how they get the ski to be 181 I have no idea... running lenght is shorter so cant be that either.

Must be a secret formula, or a faulty ruler...

Thats why i thought the Coomba which has a flat tail would be around stated length. But it looks like ti cant have anything with that to do...

Do anyone know if last years Chief measured longer as well?
