Worst Winter Ever?

Utah: Early snow, VERY little since.

NoCal: No significant dumps at all, December conditions in late Jan.

SoCal: June Mtn. Shut down for the season. Mammoth at ~40% open..

MT: Very similar to NoCal from reports, no serious action all season.

WY: In serious need across the board.

East: My own personal hell. It's been cold as shit lately so the fake snow has been getting put down to help shore up the measely bases but we're still waiting for that first big storm of the season and this weekned will be February...

    The "exceptions:

CO: Good ealry season dumps around the holidays, few foot + since, could be a lot better. San Juans getting the majority of the love but elsewhere is still decent.

PNW: We all know what happened early season as we sat around throwing up in our mouths after numerious 2'+ storms, been a little quite lately.

It's been beat to shit around here complaining about who has it worst and everything, but on the whole for the continental U.S. this has got to be the worst winter I can remeber in 20 years, can anyone remeber a worse all around one?

The storm that is taking shape for this weekend in New England is going to be another shitshow, forecasting nightmare.

the funny thing about this winter in CO has been how wildly variable storms have been for the State. Where I am we are normally dry in the valley and the snow line is about fifteen minutes/1500'-2000' up. This year I have been shoveling the shit out of my sidewalk and the pass has been windy and only a couple significant snows. Basically we are in the wrong place with all of the upslope storms. Of course I don't expect any sympathy from any EC brethren but it is still been a pretty frustrating winter here in the Sawatch.

yep. i can only recall three 'dumps' so far - 60-80cms in early december, 30-40cms around jan 2, and 20-30cms around jan 24. jan was very warm with frequent rain up to 3000m. no base below about 2000m. only the higher altitude resorts have had any decent skiing - verbier, glacier3000, zermatt, chamonix, etc. fortunately, i am blessed with a glacier on my ski pass.

Having driven through most of these states this month I can say that in early January/late December - outside of the east - Colorado had the least snow out of CO, UT, norCal, OR, and BC. This confused me since everyone seemed to think that CO was having an epic season. Looks like it just all fell at Eldora?

01/02 wasn't exactly a stellar year either, compared to what we're seeing now.

I have to admit though - it's getting tough to keep a positive attitude about all this. The June mountain news this morning was pretty &*%(&@ depressing.

Been pretty normal around the PNW this winter. Just been so bad everywhere else, that people forgot how rad it is around here. Now come mid-Feb/March, and it isn't snowing, then its worrysome.

if you look at the noaa graphs, 2003 was just as bad at this point in utah, and on the utah avi report the base at alta at this time in 2003 was 45in----10 in less than today

We went through about a 2weeks period of negative temps and now we're finally back into a decent temp for snow. It's supposed to climb 23 degrees between fri and monday, don't know if that good or not.
