Talking Picture Report: 12.21.06 Inbounds Faceshoty Deepness

12.21.06 - DEEP AT THE STONE
    SPThomson, Summit

The big storm puked several feet of snow all over the front range. The snow totals for that day:

    Sol Vista 25"
    Eldora 24"
    Echo Mountain Park 23"
    Winter Park 22"

Berthoud Pass was closed and I didn't wake up early enough to drive the long way. We certainly didn't get the most snow but luckily enough of the storm spilled over the divide to make the conditions still quite good.

The Stone *reported* 12" fresh in 24, 18" in the last 48. That alone won it the snow totals for anywhere within an hour's drive (a rarity). There was much more than this on the right aspects.

Keystone transformed from its usual self:

    (answers.com)

    Into this:

We never went to stashes. We just hit runs and some glades. It was knee deep most of the time and occaisonally up to the waist with tons of face shots up until the end of the day. The county showed up and there were a lot of people ripping harder than that mountain usually sees. I actually wasn't the only pair of Spats out that day.

We only slowed down to take pictures at about 2PM and then we didn't really want to waste much time so here are the few.

It just stayed good and kept on snowing... can't compete with WP but the grin on everyone's faces said that nobody was about to complain!

I guess I wasn't the only one either! One of the most fund days I've had at Keystone in a long time.

I was there too, left a little early to head over to a-basin. It was nice there too. I saw a pair of Bro's on my way up to the gondola, first time I had seen them. They are beautiful!

Nice pics, a bit jealous right now since the nearest hill around the folks has 800' vert, rope tow and a poma to access the 800'.

Jebus that's deep. Seeing pics like that while I'm visiting family in Texas kinda makes me want to forget about that whole flesh and blood thing and hope a flight to the gnar pow up in your neck of the woods.

Yep, saw a couple spats that day, one of those must have been you, full-face? I usually despise Keystone but that was a pretty fun day. Breck was actually alright yesterday once they opened lake chutes.

I like you just a little bit less now. Thanks for reinforcing the Eldora regret. Asshole.

I should have listened to you Wed. night. Great fucking shots, as usual.

I was excited to finally meet the infamous Gosey in person...I couldn't believe it when Summit told me you'd driven back toward Boulder for Eldora after driving to Summit just the night before. Oh, wait...I guess I could believe it...this is Max, after all. Have to give you shit.

Great shots, Summit. Thanks for gettin' 'em up. Great day indeed.

Can you tell I like watching the snow explode right in front of me? (sweet head down steeze)

    Very nice.

Skeystoned gets a bad rap...but with the right base and pow it has so much nice acreage.

One of the things I love is like in the below picture the trees very often look impenetrable - keeping most people out. But with a little knowledge and/or willingness to explore there are some really high quality glades above and beyond the outback stuff.

    Great pics Summit!!

I was blessed enough to be up at the 'Stone on Thursday as well - the stoke level in the Outback liftline was so HIGH, some overheard comments included...

"it was so buttery and easy, just shifted the ankles side to side and glided all the way through..."

"I've never seen that line so filled in!"

"One of the best runs of the year, for sure!"

    "Where is the EPIC flag?"

Can't wait to get back out to SuCo next Thursday - anyone mind if a Kansas mag (jong.) joins them inbounds on the 29th/30th at any of the vail/intrawest resorts?

Kansas brews to be provided, of course....

If there's fresh on the ground (6" rule), I'll probably be at one of the VRs. Shoot me a PM closer to that time.

Nice to know there were a lot of mags out enjoying the goodness

KS mag if work is slow I might be able to do a lap or two on the 30th if you end up skiing around the stone

Yup yup yup! Skied the line under the north peak chair and skiers left off that all morning. Everyone headed to the outback and there was no line there. Trees in the outback were fantastic. GREAT day! I had to leave at noon ... did they end up opening the bowls in the outback?

Um...that day...Thursday. You stayed in SuCo Wed night, right? And I thought you were going to be skiing with us that day at the stone... So, we didn't meet...but that's what I was saying...I was excited because I thought I was finally going to see the Gose in the flesh...but you weren't there because you took off to Eldora. Copy?
