I disagree, you need to first buy skis no wider that 65mm. Old atomic race skis are the best. Then lean way forward and shred!
Ya mean like this........:FIREdevil

VORLAGE, baby! :fm:
oh, AZ, you're my favorite alias
I've met a few east coast transplants out here who have told me with a straight face "I just don't like [powder]" and one who was afraid of chairlifts which "went too high"... the west is scary. I need to forward that thread (grin).
Don't they remember how to ski pow back from their WWI days, when skiing was pure?
fucking epic
My favorite part is the way the AZ thread starts:Too much powder? If I only had such problems.:FIREdevilQuote:
Figured this would be useful, especially after the "too much powder" thread.
Duh! Lean back, keep your hands in your pockets and your feet glued together.
cool... good stuff...quick question as long as we are getting some tips here...
would it be cool and a little funny if the next powder day I wore a scuba mask and snorkle?
only 17 posts till someone said to 'lean back'
leaning back is the best universal advice for anyone skiing any conditions, just lean back go straight and turn when something gets in your way.
go fast, ride fat skis, take chances, rinse, repeat
Here is a diagram:

Remember JONGS, keep your feet together for max float and your poles wide for balance.
My personal favorite:
Hunker down and make some cutbacks!
don't bother stay home powder sux.
1) lossen your boots, if you have rear entries, even better. i prefer salomon sx 91, the white ones. you want lots of movement in the boots to absorb the pow
2) get wayyy back in the back seat when you ski 'ze powder, so you are doing wheelies almost
3) make super tight turns, like bobbing up and down, think zipper line. you want to preserve the powder for your fellow riders
4) open your mouth wide to breathe better as you make all thos turns
Put an itty-bitty crust on a few feet of pow and watch 'em flip out (grin). A great day in Chugach:
