Is there any way? I cannot copy the DVD to my harddrive or make duplicate. Is there any other way around this on an iMac?

Get mac the ripper to rip it to your drive and then a copy of toast if you want to burn it to a dvd again. Otherwise just watch the ripped copy with vlc.
out of curiosity, how do you do this on a PC?
Thieves.

I use DVD Decrypter to copy it to my harddrive, then I burn it in Nero, or if needs be shrink it using ShrinkTo5 before burning it.
dvdshrink works great for copying movies.
On a side note.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the pesky watermarks some people put on their fotos?
Hard Days Night is the holy grail for me right now. Apple has a huge wall around their products. Otherwise, Mac the Ripper works 95% of the time.
Fast DVD Copy
It's a one application process. No need for Toast or others.
Ya Monkey & CJ I am sure all your burned movies and music are just backup incase you lose your originall bought copy. Probably never illegally downloaded any music etc.
I just think it is interesting that such a hallaballo is raised over downloaded pics but no comments on this practice. I understand that you are probably not submitting the work as your own (or selling it) and only using it for your own viewing or listening pleasure (like a photo for a screensaver) but the intellectuall property rights issue is the same.
Anyhow cheers, its just an observation.

I aplogize if I am wrong here. I know there are legitimate legal and moral reasons for bypassing protection software. I also am not guilt free here for I have a ton of music whose source is rather grey.
Just thought I'd throw a little thought into the topic since the threads on photography has had me rethink some of my views on such issues.
Fair use laws vs IP laws read up.
You probably think GNU and Open Source are the same thing too right?
Dongles are the most annoying invention know to man.
You either stole it or you didn't. There is no middle ground.Quote:

If you want to argue IP vs Fair Use then make a new thread YOU STUPID FUCKING JONG.Quote:

Forgot about this thread. The hypocracy in this place fucking amazes me sometimes. Yes, I bet everyone makes copies of movies "as back ups."
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot that video and music piracy are "sticking it to the man," so that's OK.
My bad guys, I was wrong.
As people have said before, it's not ripping it off if you own it. My yearbook dvd is scratched or something from too much use. The way things SHOULD work, I should be sent another dvd. Somehow I don't think matchstick will do this. When you buy a dvd you should have the right to do whatever the fuck you want with it other than sell it. Yearbook is one of my favorite movies, I should not have to pay for it again.
Go cry on www.thepiratebay.com
I'm sure they'll appreciate the argument.
It's hypocrisy you retard. There isn't much, more hypocritical than you with an avatar that is infringing on the University of Arizona's copyright ranting about other IP thieves.
I gasp pay to download movies. I'd even pay to purchase them in a digital only format when the titles i want become available that way, because I don't like dragging around DVDs.

Guess I have some reading to do.

Agreed. A hardware dongle malfunction cost my business thousands of dollars before we were able to figure out what was up.

I was given a gift of a sixty gigabyte hard disk with mostly rare classical and jazz music. I know a lot of it was downloaded peer to peer. I am enjoying some nice flaminco music from it right now.

"If you want to argue IP vs Fair Use then make a new thread YOU STUPID FUCKING JONG."As obvious by my handeling of the quotes function I am to much of a STUPID FUCKING JONG to know how to start a thread.:p
If you must know, the reason I was asking was so that I could burn copies of movies to keep in the vehicle so that we can use them in our DVD player on road trips. All I wanted to know was if it were possible or not. Sheesh. :rolleyes2
And for anyone looking and too afraid to ask:

dvdshrink here too... it hasn't been updated in a while afaik, so where it fails against the protection that assclowns also waiting for dibs on your firstborns put on the dvds there's AnyDVD.
so... I buy some cds and download them to my ipod and it is my legal responsibility to keep the receipts? Sounds pretty weak to me.
