You'll notice that the front wheel is different in the pic. They couldn't build my front in time for the weekend due to a parts snafu, so lph lent me his spare front.
Also the Gustavs were a surprise. I was hemming and hawing over Gustav vs. Louise for a while and ordered the Louise. My indecisiveness led to an ordering mixup...one that I'm not going to argue with. :D :D :D
awesome ride arty!
Sure looks sharp! Sometimes I wish I got the Trans Blue rather than the Liquid. That is Trans Blue right not some custom jobby?
Arty your stable is now my envy...5 Spot or RFX might have to be my next trailbike. The AS-X will last another year or two no prob though.
Nice ride mang. How's it treating you on the trail so far?

I'd like to give a separate shout out to the Gustavs. HOLY ##*#%#!!! They're like pure sex for your index fingers. No matter how steep it got or how fast I got rolling, I only needed one finger. And I don't think I ever pulled the levers past half way. The lever resistance ramps up as you pull the levers back. Which is really nice, cause if you mash these suckers you'll think you're a bird. Just because, I decided to give the levers a nice little yank rolling slowly on a fireroad and the whole bike went .
Man oh man. It feels like I just discovered fat skis all over again. Rating to this point...SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!!
Sweet rig.
Just remember that crash landings on dirt hurt/cost way more than on the snow. Enjoy the fat ride.
That's ok. My riding partners constantly heckle me for having an entire beach head unto myself.Quote:

Isn't that way overkill for a downieville bike?
But nice build, for a north shore type hucker bike, or for shuttling/lifts!
Nice ride! I can't wait to take it for a spin in Moab.
Just remember, regardless of what bike you're riding, there is no good excuse to ever do the Diving Board....ever.
It's thursday.Quote:

Oh come on kidwoo, everyone knows you need at least 7" of travel to clear the waterfall section on Butcher Ranch.Quote:

Aw ya brought it up...hehe. I was considering it, but figured I'd beat that horse enough. But since you did... ;) I rode Porc. this spring and there was a large group of riders/gapers below the diving board, and they say my big Shiver and big bike and full face and I'm sure they were expecting me to just huck off the biggest part; I rode down the side w/o any air at all and they were really really confused. I just chuckled and went on with a great ride.Quote:

Arty's bike got some good use this weekend. He did 3 laps on Butcher with it, and even did the burly-gnar-gnar line (that's not really a line at all) at the road between the two sections of First Divide. Climbed up the hill and took that thing down a crazy little section with the worst landing ever. And he nailed it perfectly. lph has a good sequence shot, I think.
And it's the purtiest blue ever!!
ja - D'ville is great rignt now. Still lots of water to ride through, but just enough to cool you down. Third Divide is in better shape than Butcher, but the whole thing is just so fun right now.
There were WAY too many people out there this weekend though. I think a whole lot of people pre-riding for the Classic, maybe. But there was more congestion than I've ever seen out there.
Downieville was killer. There was only water in the usual locations. That said, Butcher was a bit more eroded than usual which was cool in that it made it a bit more technical. Third Divide is in great shape except for a small reroute which we couldn't figure out. Basically you go from hauling insane ass to winding a bit through trees to hauling ass. Hopefully it's temporary and just for trail maintenance. Otherwise, the days of absolutely maching down the whole thing without a care in the world are over.
Moocher!!! But since you helped so much with the build, I may have to comply. ;)Quote:

Give me a holler next time you're up in tahoe and I'll show you how versatile bikes bigger than yours can be. :D
I hate lazy ass dh bike riders who can't ride anything but big bikes too but there's nothing wrong with wanting some big tires and some travel to enjoy a shuttle run on a really fast trail. And arty kills it on his 5 spot around here.
Hell I rode a demo 9 at d'ville a few years ago when they first came out because I wanted to know how they rode and northstar hadn't opened yet. Never got off the thing once and pinned it down butcher and third faster than I ever have.
Doing the two TRT trails from Kingsbury saturday and sunday as out and backs.Quote:

Hey! We're talking about my bike here!
I love the Bench. I assume the fire road climb you're referring to is on the Kingsbury side. I've seen people go up that way but never understood it since the trail is so much fun.
Update:
Jesus Harold Christopher, who knew an extra 3" could make such a difference...
