I'm a big fan of Van Morrison, but his version of Light My Fire frickin' blows.
The single worst cover ever.......
Where the Streets Have No Name by the Pet Shop Boys. I cringe even thinking about it.

That Sheryl Crow version of "The First Cut is the Deepest" sucks ass. Not that she totally ruined the song, but what's the point in covering a former #1 hit and not changing anything about it other than to make a quick and easy buck? Those are the ones that piss me off- if you are going to cover a song, at least make an attempt to reinterpret it, instead of recycling it to cover your lousy-no-songwriting-talent ass.
Yeah, but Sheryl Crow IS hot.Quote:

That song shoulda never been written in the first place.
And that's another thing- she's not nearly as hot as she was in the "All I Wanna Do" era, may we never speak of it again.Quote:

1. William Shatner doing a speaking version of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" on the Tonight Show (I think, might have been Dick Cavett) back in the 70's. Lennon was a guest that night.
2. Frankie Goes to Hollywood doing "Born to Run".
3. And the all time worst.............
WHITNEY HOUSTON singing "I Will Always Love You", originally written/performed by Dolly Parton.
Tom Jones struggling w/ Black Betty. Terrible.
Good point. You typically think of songs where the cover band "ruins" it, but forget the songs that sucked in the first place, so covering it just forces us to listen to it even more!Quote:

And I don't want to hear any "Don McLean fuckin' rulz man!" replies :D
Dolly Parton- The most underrated singer of our time. I have one of her recent albums (Little Sparrow) which is simply beautifuly wrought.
i'm not a big Stones fan but britney spears doing "Satisfaction" is just wrong and possibly unholy.
And my entry for the "worst cover that never happened" would be:
Alice's Restaurant performed by Justin Timberlake
[/shudders]
Coming Soon:
Toby Keith covers Canned Heat!
you forgot songwriter & musicianQuote:

You guys are forgetting perhaps the most recently released "Worst cover ever." That dubious honor belongs to the assclown Kid Rock. He took a great song by Bad Company (I think) called "Feel Like Making Love" and transformed it into a song like everything else that comes out of his mouth . . . . . which is a steaming pile of crap.

I gotta agree with you on that one. It just can't be done right. Even if it could be done right, it shouldn't be.
Joe Cocker's version of With a Little Help From My Friends is a definite exception to that rule.
i disagree. You ever hear Johnny Cash cover "In My Life"?Quote:

stevie wonder covered a beatles song-for the life of me I can't remember which one-but I liked his version better
the most recent cringe-inducer i've heard is the slightly stoopid cover of 'leaving on a jet plane.' they make up for it with the cover of the 'just cause she dances go-go, that don't make her a ho, no' song.
I dont know the artist who covered it, but some reggae group made of cover of "Somebody to Lean on" a few years ago. Turned a peaceful, calming melody to shit.
what about the Dixie Chicks landslide cover??
Will Young's cover of 'Light My Fire'.
And if you don't know who he is or never heard the cover (both impossible in the case of UK-based minions), consider yourselves lucky.
Truly, stunningly bad. It sounds like a high school student messing around with Apple Soundtrack software. I thought it was a joke the first time I heard it.Quote:

Iron Maiden's version of Jethro Tull's Cross Eyed Mary.
Two Great bands, one classic song, but God this sucks!
I have to agree with this statement! I heard this for the first time this morning. Worst thing I have ever heard. I am hoping the covulsions stop soon. Did somebody actually tell him that he sounded good in this song?Quote:

on the album "Signed, Sealed & Delivered".
There is also an obscure Stevie WOnder cover of "Love Me Do" that he did at a Montreux JazzFestival in Japan, but I don't think it was ever released.
Here's an interesting source for covers.

You guys heard Richard Cheese? Think lounge-style covers of Nirvana, Radiohead and RATM...hilarious.
Best:
Hendrix - Like a Rolling Stone (Live)
SRV - Little Wing
yeah but check out his cover of Kiss by Prince. My nomination for the strange prize, Richard Thomson doing "whoops I did it again".Quote:
