I'm a big fan of Van Morrison, but his version of Light My Fire frickin' blows.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

    The single worst cover ever.......

Where the Streets Have No Name by the Pet Shop Boys. I cringe even thinking about it.
I went out there in search of experience. To taste, and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents.

That Sheryl Crow version of "The First Cut is the Deepest" sucks ass. Not that she totally ruined the song, but what's the point in covering a former #1 hit and not changing anything about it other than to make a quick and easy buck? Those are the ones that piss me off- if you are going to cover a song, at least make an attempt to reinterpret it, instead of recycling it to cover your lousy-no-songwriting-talent ass.

And that's another thing- she's not nearly as hot as she was in the "All I Wanna Do" era, may we never speak of it again.

    1. William Shatner doing a speaking version of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" on the Tonight Show (I think, might have been Dick Cavett) back in the 70's. Lennon was a guest that night.

    2. Frankie Goes to Hollywood doing "Born to Run".

    3. And the all time worst.............

WHITNEY HOUSTON singing "I Will Always Love You", originally written/performed by Dolly Parton.

Good point. You typically think of songs where the cover band "ruins" it, but forget the songs that sucked in the first place, so covering it just forces us to listen to it even more!

And I don't want to hear any "Don McLean fuckin' rulz man!" replies

Dolly Parton- The most underrated singer of our time. I have one of her recent albums (Little Sparrow) which is simply beautifuly wrought.

You guys are forgetting perhaps the most recently released "Worst cover ever." That dubious honor belongs to the assclown Kid Rock. He took a great song by Bad Company (I think) called "Feel Like Making Love" and transformed it into a song like everything else that comes out of his mouth . . . . . which is a steaming pile of crap.

I gotta agree with you on that one. It just can't be done right. Even if it could be done right, it shouldn't be.

Joe Cocker's version of With a Little Help From My Friends is a definite exception to that rule.
