Jamie Pierre is "done with cliffs"

There's an article in the lastest Skiing magazine about Jamie's world record jump, and at the end of the article, he is quoted as saying,

"I got it out of my system", he says, "I'm done. I'll never jump another cliff over 50 feet." -Jamie Pierre

I guess a 245ft bonk on the head would make anyone think twice about doing something like that again. Sorta like your first hangover..... I'll never ever do this again... then the next week you're back at it.

He took alot of flack from his family for his stunt, and I can't blame him for settling down now that his wife is expecting if I recall.

Didn't he say that anything under 50 ft. isn't worth it?

either way if he stops hucking huge cliffs that could be the demise of his career seeing that it is mostly agreed that he lacks the skiing skills of his peers and that the reason he gets segments is because he hucks huge shit.

the second response is only meta-related to the first response, which was the declaration. he's clean.

i guess he is done getting parts in ski movies then...so i guess he is also done with sponsorships, and i guess that means he will also fade out as a pro skier.

It's totally cool. I just find it funny. No worries.

And, I guess we'll see what will happen with Jamie's career. I think he's a great skier, and would like to see him in some more films. Maybe he will get more sponsors now, as they won't be so hesitant to invest in someone who may die at any time doing huuuge cliffs.

Given that his "career" had him struggling to make enough money to live on, that's probably a good thing. If he's going to risk his life, at least he should get paid more than the greeters at WalMart.

Beat me to it. He has one shot in particular in Waiting Game that really impressed me. It is taken from Alaska, where he skis down a huge face in four or five turns and hits a massive cliff clean. He lands it cleanly and skis away. He skis the line the way Hugo or Kreitler would, and when I first saw the shot( it is the first skiing shot in the trailer) I assumed it was Kreitler. His segment really impressed me. I am not into huge cliff hucks and landing on one's side, but I have always noticed some excellent skiing in his segments apart from the giant hucks.

He had a pretty cool segment in Booter Crunk, which mostly sucked, but in his segment he skied some pretty sweet lines, showing he's a great skier and can do much more than big cliffs.

I was just out walking the dogs in the park behind my house, and ran into him walking his lab and dalmation. It's a pow day in the Wasatch, but a cloudy one. Maybe he'll be out hucking when the weather clears.

Maybe I should have gotten his opinion on all this.

I had the pleasure of meeting and skiing with Jamie this past weekend at Solitude. He was there filming Monopalooza with Tom Day from Warren Miller Productions. Jamie (following in Jeremy Nobis' footsteps) was learning how to monoski. His first runs were on my Aluflex PHI. He got half way down the run realizing it was way too agressive for a beginner. Nobis had the same problem. We (ChronicSkiCo) put him on something a little easier. I never saw Jamie ski on alpines that weekend but he was very good at debriefing what he was experiencing on a monoski. Half way through the day he was linking turns and learning to not roll his ankles through a turn.

The next day he was jumping a 25 footer.

Jamie was there out of his passion for skiing and trying something new. Not collecting a paycheck or trying to keep his name in lights. I'm stoked I got to meet him and ski with him. He's totally laid back and approachable and I don't blame him for retiring the big hucks.
