awww they turned the guns off, people still watching though
Yes, it's snowing up there right now! But you would think they could keep the guns on since it'll be cold.
Copper Snowstake cam is showing about 9" !!!!!!!!!!

Get out there and hit some rocks!
Ha. I used to pride myself on being the first person down Loveland Pass every fall. Stick to the woods, ski on pine needles, pretty slippery.
Now I'm waiting for the ribbon, Nov 8 is very soon.
My season pass will be paid for by Nov.8
Teeing it up for 18 holes today and Thursday. Let Indian summer continue.
Driving to wolf Creek today. Skiing all week. Come on down
BFD get in touch at wolf Creek. Pm incoming
was supposed to go to the front range and do that today. i70 had different plans this morning that I decided not to deal with. In the end I maybe would have been able to make it before my tee time but decided to give it up and not gamble. ah well at least I didn’t sit at the tunnel for an hour or something?
looks like back to warm and sunny but with colder nights than before.
I'm feeling like it could be threading the needle around some muddy low spots but hopefully mostly dry tomorrow. We got about 4" of wet snow, but it was already gone from the sunny west aspect this morning when I walked the dog. Maybe a sunny trail is the key...
There's a truck parked at the top of E lift, looking at the webcam. Incongruous with all the snow on the ground. Guns are running during daytime so that's good.
I came to my senses and realized 30 hrs of driving for 3-4 days of early groomers is insane. Have fun whoever is at wolf Creek.
Shera - did the valley floor melt out today up in Summit?
I'm in Lake, not Summit. But it's melted here.

I should qualify that - melted on sunny aspects!
yoouuuuu guyzzzzzzz! this thread is awesome. grumpy old us can be like "can you believe anyone would drive all that way for so little?" and then grumpy old us remember we DID and we loved it and that's what sensible passionate skiers do (did) when we were young with boundless energy and stoke and lack of commitment.
and you hope that the next generation IS doing this shit and sharing it with us in a way at least somewhat less self indulgingly ridiculous than a professionally curated insta reel with half a dozen tagged sponsors. but then again, hell, that was essentially the buzz *we* were seeking with our Oct Blower Pow (TR) TGR posts back in the day....neh?
It's not great snow, but I've flown out from Texas to wherever to ski in Oct/Nov for the past 6 years, and I've got my trip to Copper all planned out for the second week of November this year. I kinda appreciate the uncrowded sleepy vibe and cheaper lodging prices before the madhouse of prime ski season. It also gives me a chance to remember just how badly out of shape I am for the rest of the season.
Lone Star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had so much energy back then and the old farts were continuously raining on our parade. Were we self indulgent? Is that so bad? Yeah, I sincerely hope the next gen is having all the fun...
Garfield, I was all about Loveland for early season but now I'm pretty satisfied at Copper. Opening date is ok, and there's long vert and good pitch. With racing groms here from all over the country, there's no point showing up early in the morning, takes time for them to load and disperse and they ski the snow off pretty badly, but I don't begrudge them. It's part of the charm.
The guns are blazing, I could just keep watching here at my desk, very soothing. Better than working, hahaha.

Clearly I'll be obsessing on the snowmaking operations until opening day. :P
They are blowing simultaneously at the top of the mountain and down by center village and the terrain park. Seems like Loveland always had to move their equipment down the mountain in sections. And maybe it was because they had some restrictions on how much water they could pull?
Man, I remember a few years ago, they rope-dropped Hallelujah and Mine Dump on Opening Day. It snowed several inches the night before, and you could surf on 2 inches of fresh snow on Ptarmigan. That surfy stuff was heavily skied off by 10AM, but I still dream of that day... I don't think that's happening this year, but I'm tracking the forecast and hoping that the temps stay low so that they can rail the man-made stuff this year.
Seems like Mine Dump and other E lift runs (not counting Hallelujah) are getting tracked out/bumped up in November by racers (and their entourage?) before the general public ever gets access. On the plus side the bumps get shaped reasonably well so I enjoy skiing them in December. Hallelujah is good when the rope is dropped, but I thinks it gets ruined the first weekend unless there's decent new snow, I can barely ever find a rhythm when there are firm moguls. I still go sometimes because there's some fun woods (toilet bowl), especially fun with kids.
They aren't blowing at the top of E, maybe the snow is deep enough now? The Center Village cam shows guns going up the mountain, so that's nice. https://www.coppercolorado.com/the-m...village-hd-cam
First time I remember seeing the Copper snow stake topped out

Me too…was just thinking that.
Pretty rare for Copper to be the 'winner' in my memory at least. But I don't 'follow' it either.
As someone who follows Copper, I don't recall them winning the snow lottery in recent history. I remember Winter Park, Steamboat, and the central/southern mountains being the winners in the past few years. Last year, even Cooper was a winner over Copper. I'm going to treasure this memory.
Nice guys. Great early season help
That would be kinda sad, lifts not even spinning yet. Maybe it's the harbinger of the season to come!
I'm curious how it will be on Friday. I'm not trying for first chair, will show up late morning and hopefully ski onto the lift and ski some nice powder piles. I guess that'll be really fun.
