I belive this allegation is an old one, but it is news today because they have recently run tests on frozen urine samples from that tour and they detected EPO. If that the test is correct, it does not matter, the UCI will not do anything.Quote:

Just wondering- does anyone know how long EPO stays in your system? I believe Lance was given EPO during his chemo- could this test be detecting residuals from that?

In his interviews I always hear him refer to never testing positive. He also repeatedly states that he does not take any banned substance (never heard him say has never either). I've never heard him say that he never or does not take ANY performance enhancing drugs. What was the status of EPO in '99. For sure there was no test for it. I don't believe it was actually illegal through much of Indurain's era.
Fignon's statement comes out of self interest I'm sure (he is French). If they go back to '99 to get Lance why shouldn't they go back to '90 or whatever to nail Fignon for all the stuff coursing through his veins.

Even Big Mig has Lance's back. The only rider that seems not to so far is Fillipo Simeoni who Lance has had ongoing litigation with.
Apparently the samples they tested from 99 show that other riders used EPO as well, why not name their names. Regardless of whether the sample that allegedly is Lance's tested positive for EPO, these allegations are not about doping in cycling but about the French bringing Lance down.
Again I would not be suprised if in the end Lance at some point did dope, as mentioned in this thread alot of riders doped in the late 90s and in the decades before. There probably are still alot of riders that do, but they stay one step ahead of the system. Lance obviously has had the financial resources in the past to stay ahead of the system. But in the end he is a former world champion and a 7 time tour de france winner that never tested positive for doping in competition.
Fuckin Euro's (French) Seem to still be having a hard time dealing with the fact that an American came over and kicked their ass 7 years in a row in their race on their turf. Not surprised Big Mig has his back. I'm pretty sure Indurain pioneered the use of EPO before they even knew they should look for it. I've long thought they suggested Mig retire or made him go clean so they wouldn't have to blow the whistle on him and sully their sport and it's champion. Of course he's a Euro so the different treatment isn't a surprise.
whether mig was doped or not, from the beginning, he was always a physical specimen much like armstrong.

hey guys, I didn't mean to interrupt your discussion. I'm just used to making ironique and satirique comments whenever somebody starts generalizing intentions and attitudes on the basis of nationality.
I lived in the US for over a year, spend two years in the francophone and am now living in the germanspeaking part of switzerland. I myself am german.. It's just my humoristic way to react to such comments. normally it works out pretty well and everybody gets the point.
as far as this discussion is concerned, I don't really wonder, that the test was made in france and it doesn't surprise me either, that the leak is a french, since the urin samples are taken in france and the responsible institute is located in france, because the tour is french... If the tests would have been made and turned up in the US, now, that would have surprised me.
as far as the way it was published is concerned, I can assure you that the european media is very skeptic as well and mistrusts the intentions of l'equipe.
as far as doping is concerned, I would be astonished if anyone of the top cyclists isn't doped. legally, if somebody is doped or not is a question of detectability and if the substance is already on the list. In both cases you're a doper, if you're legally a doper is another question..
The French are the greatest cyclists on the planet. Just ask them!!
