Much of the first world seems to be trending toward legalization of marijuana. Do you think that eventually happens with other drugs that are currently illegal? Do you think it should happen? Where do you draw the line and why?
I'd like to think a combination of education and regulation would allow for the sale of any drug but am not sure that's feasible even if eventually socially acceptable.
If we are talking about user deaths per year, potential for causing disease, impact on user relationships, fatalities involving the substance, etc., alcohol wins. Hands down. Most societies have allowed the adult use of alcohol for centuries. There are no confirmed deaths due to overdose of marijuana yet it has been ostracized for more than 100 years.
I think most people just want a reasonable drug policy that considers the impact of all drugs on the society based on rational considerations instead of an exaggerated, subjective view of them.

Reasonable drug policy has to factor that into the equation. With any drug, there are obviously risks to self and society. But with certain drugs, those risks become so high as to become almost certain, and thus not worth the gamble.
80 % of street drugs were found to contain Fentynal or Carfentynal which is the real probIem nowdays, I don't even think you can get heroin anymore cuz its way cheaper/easier to smuggle the synthetics
Heavy drugs are not legal but they got safe injection sites on the downtown east side of vancover which has been good for Harm Reduction

If you make coke readily available, you miss the two most interesting parts:
Finding coke and awkward interactions with the people who have the coke

I would draw the line after marijuana, for freely available recreational use. Supervised maintenance clinics as an option for registered opiate addicts. Continued criminalization of black market MJ sales--similar to selling nontaxed alcohol and cigarettes. Continued, more serious criminalization of other black market drug sales. Decriminalization--citations and drug courts--for drug users without intent to sell. Hallucinogens are a complicated case--probably some kind of limited legal sale and use but I haven't given it a lot of thought. Actually, since my last trip I haven't given anything a lot of thought.
Personal use possession and cultivation of any unrefined drug or alcohol legalized. Personal use of refined drug decriminalized. All sale of any drug or alcohol regulated. Heavy penalty for unregulated sale. The black market destroys the kids of communities in my experience, even for something as benign as weed. Fuck those engaged in the profiteering of life's painkillers/enhancements, no matter their source or agent.
We need grown-ups in charge in Washington to say marijuana is not the kind of thing that ought to be legalized, it ought not to be minimized, that it's in fact a very real danger.
