Where Do You Draw The Line On Drug Legality?

Much of the first world seems to be trending toward legalization of marijuana. Do you think that eventually happens with other drugs that are currently illegal? Do you think it should happen? Where do you draw the line and why?

I'd like to think a combination of education and regulation would allow for the sale of any drug but am not sure that's feasible even if eventually socially acceptable.

If we are talking about user deaths per year, potential for causing disease, impact on user relationships, fatalities involving the substance, etc., alcohol wins. Hands down. Most societies have allowed the adult use of alcohol for centuries. There are no confirmed deaths due to overdose of marijuana yet it has been ostracized for more than 100 years.

I think most people just want a reasonable drug policy that considers the impact of all drugs on the society based on rational considerations instead of an exaggerated, subjective view of them.

Total legality and acceptance. Wildly available testing and ideally some sort of regulation for purity. Spaces to consume means that those that are most vulnerable will be easily accessible to those that would offer them resources, education, and perhaps an alternative to hard drugs.

What is the overall ratio of users to problems however? Yes, alcohol wins overall, but that's because it is far and away the most used drug. If you were to calculate the ratio of total users to users that had problems with death, disease, negative impacts on relasionships/Jobs, etc, I'm sure opiates would win running away.

Reasonable drug policy has to factor that into the equation. With any drug, there are obviously risks to self and society. But with certain drugs, those risks become so high as to become almost certain, and thus not worth the gamble.

80 % of street drugs were found to contain Fentynal or Carfentynal which is the real probIem nowdays, I don't even think you can get heroin anymore cuz its way cheaper/easier to smuggle the synthetics

Heavy drugs are not legal but they got safe injection sites on the downtown east side of vancover which has been good for Harm Reduction

This is what I was thinking with regard to the feasibility part. Ketamine replaced PCP in the medical setting because of side effects and tolerance issues, for example. So a safer, better alternative exists.

Redirect all funds earmarked for drug law enforcement of users to t treatment and rehab. Free treatment for anyone who wants it.

I've always fallen on the side of decriminalization versus legalization.

This thread isn't about cigarettes. Legal tobacco is one of the biggest health problems we have and should be seriously addressed.

This^ with "at a show" including at home on the porch. Smart towns will realize the financial benefit sometime. i am 40+ and am usually the youngest customer in the shop.

Over 18 or 21. Otherwise, same here, there are already enough problems with alcohol and tobacco. If people want to grow their own or there are small craft growers for those who don't and they pay a tax I am good with that. As for the example of "at a show" Why not, as long as it is treated like booze and there is an unimpaired driver to get you home. As for at your home, what the fuck is it anyones business what any of us do in our homes? As long as it doesn't involve dismemberment that is.

We don't need Phillip Morris sized suppliers.
