I know we get lots of Internet traffic here, so i don't want to hear your opinions about Stem cells....only if you have tried the procedure and your experiences with it.
Ankle is acting up again and considering this procedure to avoid surgery.

My knee still swells sometimes and isn't perfect, but previous to the injections I was basically skiing on one leg and just locking that knee and holding on. Many days I went home in pain after just one run.
I didn't ski much last year as the doc (Joseph Albano in SLC) wanted me to not ski for 2 months, and then only mellow soft snow groomers until March. My knee hurt all last season anyway and I was sure there was not much improvement. It was a bit depressing.
Fast forward to this year and I can ski with two legs again! Huge difference. I have very little pain while skiing now and can actually extend and contract and push my ski into the snow to bend it! It's not a new knee but it works again. I probably should try a second treatment.
I would try Regenexx if I hadn't found someone else I feel good about.

Make sure you know what cell count they expect to inject back in and if it's a guided injection. The higher the cell count # the better the results but if it's not a guided injection find someone else

For knees, I'm not so certain a fluoroscope image for guidance is as necessary as it would be for a spinal injection. I guess I'll bump my stem cell thread now.
Maz- it's more likely to work than not, based on my experience and others who have done stem cells that I have talked to.
I do believe that image guiding is essential, problem is there are a lot of hacks attracted by easy money.
Looking forward to what the field is going to be like in 15-20+ years when I might need it.
That is not accurate. 78% in one study noticed improvement in joints. That is also including the very elder patients who might not be the best comparison for our needs. We are not talking about injecting into the brain to fix your dementia Mazderati.....Quote:

I could see image guidance being useful for isolated inter-substance meniscal tears but I don't see how "placing" stem cell on areas of chondromalacia or exposed sub chondral bone would work. The knee joint is filled with fluid and "placing" the stem cells on worn areas would seem hopeful. Having the stem cells circulating in the joint with the synovial fluid would seem to be better for osteo.

Wow, I am a pussy and bone marrow transplant patients are heroes. The bone marrow extraction pain was gnar level for me, i felt a twinge of horror I imagined that pain would not stop, but it immediately stopped and was resolved with only uncomfortable awkwardness. Knowing i could target cells into my body and fix it, the pain was worth it. The memory is unique, not having had any internal surgery aside from stitches.
Ankle feels like needles were repeatedly stuck into it and filled with bone marrow spun into italian flavored soda, filled like a jelly doughnut, feels destroyed and my doctor is a hero/dick. But that resentment fades like the payment after a MMA fight......

Just got home after getting PRP done on right knee. No pain meds yet but starting on home brew.
Today I just had a bilateral knee stem cell procedure near Denver. Bone marrow extraction was somewhat painful but not utterly so, really not that bad. They treated a variety of issues and potential issues in both knees with targeted injections - mcls, acls, meniscus, patellas, a slight hamstring muscle tear on the right knee, and a very deep bone bruise on the left. (THAT was the painful thing of the whole day, feeling the stem cell concoction being forced deep into the bone where the anesthesia had not taken much effect.). Luckily, my stem cell count was in the upper 5 percentile, so they loaded my 2 knees up, and the Dr felt confident about my outcome.
So now on crutches for a few days primarily due to the bone bruise / micro fractures, and on Monday have a follow up of PRP injections. No need for any pain meds so far.
Beyond that, average is stability braces for 6 weeks with increasing rehab and activity levels, and after 2 months I'm back to "normal" activity, though overall healing continues for 6-12 months.

For those of you that did have this done, how long before you felt significantly better? I had it done to both knees two weeks ago and have heard ranges for a few weeks to 6 months.
Also, did you change your exercise regiment to focus on more muscles in your legs (i.e., to improve your balance, patella movement, etc.)?
I've played 15+ years of soccer, 20+ years of ice hockey, snowboard, jog, lift.
A few weeks in my case. I noticed that pedaling standing up did not hurt my knee after the procedure, while before it did.
110 days in my case. That's when my knee felt bionic.
Just under 2 months on my PRP, definite improvement, seems like a little more every day.
