Is it just a New England phenomenon?
I think it would absolutely kill here in Summit. Many people I've talked to around here and Vail say it would fall on it's face.
what say the maggotry?

I've always thought the same thing. They're all over Maine, but you never see them out here. I think D-town had a few but they're gone now.
Dunkin Donuts coffee rules.
No more Starbucks please. They're drip coffee sucks and their fattening food selection is worse. Pretty soon we're going to have 8 of them is Summit.
all the dunkin donuts here in my part of ohio have closed with in the last 2 years but they were very good donuts now all we have is krispy kreme which are not as good as dunkin donuts
Yeah - Tim Horton's would kill it!Quote:

After I moved to the plains of east Boulder, I used to drive about seven miles each way to hit the DD on Folsom (I think). Major bummer when they left Boulder.
I think it may be an EC thing...not sure how the DD would fit in at Vail.
krispy kreme would own dunkin's or horton's

I'm bored!
Apparently I have one thing on my mind as I read that as
Drunkin Donuts.
Buzz is back. :the_finge
that's crazy talk. Krispy Kreme's coffee is so bad they should serve it with a complimentary pack of Pall Mall's.Quote:

Furthermore, not only does it own the EC, but if it came to your neck of the woods it would own your area as soon as you saw the light. On another note, Marylou's ("Best Coffee in Town") is quite respectable too, and I'm a fan of all of the hot high school girls they hire :D
In my neck of the woods, you must be fluent in farsi to own a Dunkin Donuts.
Note to crinkle--Wawa coffee...da best
 Missed that one, every town has their local coffee shop, but competition never hurt, and the marginal difference in price that a chain may be able to offer below the local mom and pop is insignificant, if their product is that much better I'm sure the locals will still support their local Joe's Coffee. Also, the chains often offer a better selection and fast service in my experience, whereas local shops tend to be more of a sit down affair, and we are talking that ability to walk in - walk out or better yet drive-thru aren't we :rolleyes:Quote:

Not only are the bad for the country and your neighborhood but they serve a merely homoginized medium to low quality foodstuff. There can be no room for greatness at a chain.
Nate: Chains are a fucking plauge. They are not better than local establishments and the competition they bring is not equal.
Go to goddamned Daylight Doughnuts: No chain could ever hope to rival it on any level.
RI and eastern CT have more dunkin' donuts and Bess Eaton's than you can imagine. It's like starbucks in denver. One across the street from another
daylight donuts???
i'm not sure, but i think they might serve donuts and coffee
And MEAT PIE'S !!Quote:

I go to Daylight Donuts quite frequently as a matter of fact. But just so you know, their donuts aren't as good and it's pretty tough to beat Dunkin' Donuts coffee.Quote:

Dunkin Donuts' coffee was rated #2 in Consumer Reports.
Starbucks', burnt-tastes-like-shit coffee was rated #28.
I'm not for the proliferation of chains, I just like Dunkin' Donuts cause it fucking rules.
I'm sorry but most local "hip" coffee shops absolutely suck. Their regular coffee tastes like its been in the pot for 14 hours, and no, i don't wanna spend $5 on a mochafuckyourmomchinofrapomatic with whipped cream.
Dunkin Donuts coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts, a match made in a heaven.
All the Dunkin Donuts I used to go to were bought by arabic imigrants on a work visa who ran them into the ground and liquidated the whole thing within 2 years. Lemon's right. Chains do suck. You get the illusion of quality from the brand name and that's it.
next yer gonna try telling me that DD has better meat pies right?Quote:

Man it's all about:

At Starbucks, the illusion of quality is the nice shiny interior and if weather/location serve, warm fire (although this illusion can be shattered by the drunk dude keeping warm and singing show tunes, no joke)...there is no illusion of quality at DD. It's usually the opposite.
Edit: not to defend chains or nothing, Rocky Mountain Roastery in Winter Park is an awesome coffee place...and I had a wicked good mocha at the little joint at the base of Grand Targhee...but DD is good stuff.
I prefer to not eat meat in the form of a pie. Just doesn't feel right. ;)Quote:

LB, release the meat pie for chrissakes. you're screeching like dexter.
for all I care the rest of the chains could be fire bombed. McDonalds being first in line.
I go to Pika as much as possible, but it is no longer on my way to work. most of the other private places serve vail roasters ground up shit pellets. which I cannot abide.
Daylight is a chain. their coffee sucks. however their huevos is one of a kind. beyond that, why their blue berry cake donut has not been deified in one of the 21st century's true crimes against humanity.
Just to fill you guys in, Dunkin' Donuts is nation-wide. They have 'em here in L.A., but they don't do too well. Their coffee is good, but so is 7-11 coffee, and so is the coffee that comes out of my own pot. I could understand going to some joint that had great donuts, but why not make that first morning cup at home?
When they first opened out here, every Krispy Kreme in So Cal had a line out the door, around the corner, and down the alley. It's cooled off since then, but some of them are still out of control. Starbucks ain't much better, but this is L.A., so what do you expect? If it ain't cool, it dies.
I think the question of whether or not the chains eat up the local mom and pop shops comes down to franchising. Are Dunkin' Donuts franchises? Or are they owned by one big company? It makes a big difference when you consider that the money coming into a DD may be going to locals.
I'm from New England, lived here my whole life.
Dunkin' Donuts sucks. Sucks. Sucks. Joey coffee. Never been to a starbucks, can't comment.
I used to drink DD. When I used drown it in Cream and sugar.
The brew I get now is cheaper, better, and I don't have to stand in a line with men wearing cologne.
Dunkin Donuts sucks. Period. Fuck them.
(well, their French cruellers are good)
I love the skiers edge coffee shop/used ski gear shop in Empire, I have both the frequent coffee drinker and frequent bathroom user cards there. That place is remarkably sanitary and friendly to boot, highly recommended, 5 stars (on a sliding 5 star scale).
I suppose that we will have to agree to disagree. In my personal opinion, you are quite off-base in that chains are not better than local establishments. This whole debate is simple economics -- i.e. economies of scale. Many chains can bring you the same products offered by local stores and at lower prices because their costs are lower.Quote:

People will pick the coffee shop which they prefer, and the marginal difference Dunkin' Donuts may be able to offer over a local store is negligible, and I very much doubt it will deter customers from the local store. Maybe you will just have to live with the idea that Dunkin' Donuts may very well provide better coffee than a local shop, although it is all personal preference.
My $.02
EDIT*By the way, I very rarely drink coffee, and could careless about the success or failures of Dunkin' Donuts. I just think you have a slightly skewed perspective of chains, although I do agree they often have negative impacts, but I don't think this should be the rule.
Timmy Ho's is the shit!Quote:
