Has anyone ever done this? The goal would be to make my T-race boots fit into my Freerides. I expect a bunch of slop and flex due to the bellows but the tradeoffs might be worth it on the logistics (only needing one boot) side of things.
Looking at the toe compared to my Salomon alpine boots I think it could be possible to just grind out the corners and leave the length and most of the width intact for tele purposes.
Won't the T races fit in the Freerides anyway?....save yourself the grinding, trade your freerides for older silvrettas, your tele's will fit in em just fine.
As the freerides are adjustable shouldnt you just be able to crank the toepice down and pull hte heel out?
Of course I don't see how this could possibly work, but I dont have mad tele toes din steeze.
If I raise up the freeride toe piece the boots will fit in, but there's not much contact between the curved toe piece and the flat tele toe. That's why I was thinking of making the front of the duckbill more DIN-shaped.
As for Silvrettas, that's not really an option.
Ummmm, maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't the bellows flexing cause additional upward pressure on the heelpiece, causing you to faceplant every single run? (unless you turn the din on your heels up to eleventy billion)
Sounds like you're trying to ruin a pair of boots IMHO.

i have the machine here.....its made to din racing boots when you add lifters. i am experiementing with plug boots with vibram soles, will have results soon
why not add an alpine heel to a telecable set up?
that could work, but I foresee problems with premature ejection due to rocker launch, amazing weight gain not to mention where does the cable go when you're in fixed-heel mode? I guess I could just remove them.Quote:

I think it's a great idea, but I also think you might have to grind away so much material to accomodate the Freeride toe that you run the risk that it wouldn't hold very well in a tele binding afterwards. Also the bellow flex would make your release very very unpredictable. Bear in mind though, that when I ran Denali XT's on Freerides, I set them according to spec, skied them for an hour and then said fuggit, and cranked them down so tight that they met no international standards except for my own, which as you know are absurdly low.

As for the boot idea, if (big if) I did it I'd leave the length of the duckbill the same and just grind out the corners. That way it would stay in tele bindings. However, the bellows flex and rocker launch issues might be bigger problems than I want to deal with. I'd want to do some serious testing of the system to make sure it all works, but I don't have the time.
If all goes according to plan....
Physical Graffiti, Disc 1, track 6 (just got my Visa today) followed by a bit of FR, IT, and CH.
The former is not set in stone yet but the latter is almost definitely a go.

Packing for 8+ weeks on the road sucks too. Which is why I pack for about 10 minutes, watch 4 or 5 of the top 100 heavy metal moment on VH1, and come back here for 10 minutes.

Uh...well the toe and heel are fixed, the bellows don't do shit. That's why the spandex rando dork use that Scarpa race boot with the Denalis and Dynafits. Hoa is just trying to make an AT boot from the teles 'cause thats what he has.Quote:
