Bosch
(Audi Quattro) + (Bosch blades) + (hot blonde co-pilot) = ultimate ski whip.
Any merit to the Rain-X ones? They sure sound fancy.

I second Bosch
Rain-X were the suck on my truck. Switched to Bosch last year and couldn't be happier.
PIAA silicon -- they are the shit.
Bosch on our cars.
They all wear out. Get really cheap ones and replace them more often.
Well they are the shit. Actually you can get a set on Amazon for around $35 - $40. But after that you just swap blades.
The beauty of these things is you treat the window w/ a silicone wipe they provide and unless you are in an unholy deluge you don't even need to put the wipers on. I had them on an older 330i and loved them. Tried to get them for the next 330 and they stopped building them for bmw. Bought the bosch and still miss the PIAA.
Yes. Read a Consumer Reports on this a few years ago that basically said that. The 2x more expensive lasted a bit longer but didn't necessarily do a better job, and weren't worth the money.
8k post is on wiper blades. Coulda been worse, I guess, but coulda been better. Maybe I should go delete a few and give 8k a better shot. (Here I am replying to Mr. Almost 19k)
The Bosch ones without any of the exposed metal frame get iced up far less.
I've had a set of Bosch wipers on my truck for a little more than a year now. They're still doing great. No streaks on the window and they do a nice job of pushing the snow off as well. But I park in the garage at home and the underground garage at work so they don't really get a lot of UV exposure. That probably extends their usable life a good bit.
I park my cars in the street under trees, so shit drops on them all the time - especially sap and pollen in the spring. I get at least 2x the wear out of the Bosch vs. the AC Delco cheapies. Bosch only costs 1.5x as much (Buy Full sets on Amazon for the best price) so Consumer Reports can go fuck themselves.
Man ... this is like an oil thread in some auto forum.
For me, it's been the Rain-X blades. I had the Bosch ones for a while; junk. I would never buy them again.
If they are made for your car, I'd try to find Valeo. They were the best blades I've ever used. They are typically made for Euro imports and such. I had them on all of my Audis. Money
I like the Bosch ICON series (the winter ones) They seem to ice up less than open frame designs. I do take them off in the summer and use the garbage free ones I got with my last oil change.
I had a set of Valeos on my WRX the last two winters. Tire Rack carries them, they're available for any car that uses a "hook" style arm. They definitely work better than anything I've bought from the auto parts stores and lasted two winters, which is twice as long as any parts-store blade I've ever bought. I have the PIAA silicones now, we'll see how long they last but they do a better job of not streaking/smearing than just about anything and they're supposed to last twice as long too.
I bought a set of Bosch blades back at the beginning of the summer, in June some time and by last month they were smearing/streaking as bad as any cheaper blade I've used.
My car sits outside 100% of the time so don't know how that affects things.
The problem with wipers is the fitment guides are crap. Just because the guide says they fit doesn't mean they will. They also might work but that doesn't mean they fit. I bought wipers for the girlfriends Mitsubishi front and rear and neither fit. I got them to go on and she can't tell the difference but they don't fit and they would not be acceptable for me.
I ended up buying the Valeos from Amazon 'cause the Bosch site suxxors and you can't tell what fits what and Amazon didn't have the right PIAA ones. I reckon we'll see how it goes.
I like the Bosch winter ones (the ones with the rubber boots around the metal frame). I've tried the Valeo (the curved single piece ones) in winter before. More ice sticks to them than to the booted winter ones.
The other way to get better wiper performance is to replace the windshield. I find 50-60K is about the right mileage before I want a new windshield. Unfortunately they don't always break when I want them to and I'm forced to stick it out for a while with a pitted one. Eventually though, I catch a stone off the tire of an 18 wheeler and I get a nice big crack.
ANCO winter blades, you fucking audi driving yuppies. jeeesus!
Valeos are solid, ice. I got close to 3 years (2 in Utah) out of my driver side, and still have the same passenger side wiper I bought like 5 years ago. It wipes for shit, but still works better than most year-old wipers, and I don't really give a shit how well my passengers can see out during a rain storm.
I know nothing about wipers other than after todays snow I need new ones but the shocker of the thread is that DasCunt has a wife?
the single springy blade like the bosch icon are the best i have used, I think they come with differnt brand names made by other suppliers and I usually get them at canuck tire
if you are just buying refils don't get the plastic backed refils because they get stiff in the cold and don't follow the windsheild properly ... metal backed refils only
some cars use different sized wipers for the driver/passenger side, but when both are the same what I do is put a new blade on the driver side every year and move the blade I took off over to the passenger side SO the driver gets a new blade every year and the passenger gets a 1yr old blade every year
I used to average a couple of doz rock chips a year up here up here windsheilds might last from road sweeping in may to 1st snow in october
Bosch is good PIAA is better.
The secret to making any blade last longer is to keep your windshield clean and apply wax regularly. (or RainX, but be careful with that shit not to get it on the paint.)
This stuff is supposed to be the shit for glass. I've readf a bunch of recco's, I'm gonna get some.
I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance wiper blades when they were on sale at Costco a couple months ago. So far they seem great and much better than the Rain-X ones I had on before. The design seems to keep them in uniform contact with the windshield better than the traditional designs do.
I agree that Rain X suck ballz. Jim Rome really let me down on that one.
I also agree that the best route is to get cheapos and replace them often.
rain x and the like, hybrids, full one pieces, michelin stealth, they all suck
best blades ive ever used were the old school hinge style with the snow cover to keep the ice out of the hinges
Coincidentally just bought Bosch's online for like $5 each. Bet they charge more for wipers that fit fancy cars than they do for older Subarus, though.
Wiper TR to come in May.
I've had Bosch's for about 8 months of driving time, primarily summer, and they already seem to be streaking a little bit. Annoying...especially with the winter weather. Everyone that's recommending Bosch: how long do they usually last you?
If the air is polluted where you live the or maybe high heat in the summer could affect the rubber, when I drive a lot I replace the driver side once a yr, don't scrimp on yer rubber products the snow tires , the wipers, the condoms ... because there could be lives at stake
