Maybe Moroni will call you to go to Bolivia or Peru, then you can get out and bag some peaks in the Andes when no one is looking. ;)
Thats awesome Hopped, Ill probably get my call around may and I am already nervous. Let me know how it turns out.Quote:

hehe i am going to the Brazil Brasilia mission- it's directly on the equator, so no skiing for me :(. I'm super stoked though :)
Beware the maggots.
No mountains, but tons of beautiful women. Good luck.Quote:

He chose to put it out there, and shouldn't assume that everyone is going ot endorse it. Proselytizing is perverse, and has a pretty grim history attached to it--Mormon proselytizing is unusually bizarre (and offensive to some) in that Mormons claim to have converted ancestors of those they have converted.
Not cool.
hopped, that's got to be exciting. Congrats.
summit, bad form man. This kid is about to dedicate 2 years of his life to service. A very selfless act.
Sorry Dex, I was very excited- this is a huge thing in my life. If you ask them not to come by- they won't, simple as that hopefully. If not, they're breaking rules. If you've been offended by missionaries in the past I'm sorry.Quote:

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for informing us hopped. Unfortunately, people criticize what they don't understand most of the time.
Good to have the return missionary folk around here at work. Most of them have served in spanish speaking communities, and they can translate for us monolingual folks.
I guess you'll be learning portugese.
Best of luck to you hopped!
Door knocking builds character!
Excuse me, is this the forum where we have to subscribe to the one true religion (whichever that is)?Quote:

Meat, it's not so noble and selfless - he's earning Godpoints for himself by Evangelizing, not volunteering for Mercy Corp or Doctors without Frontiers.
Yes that's exactly what this is. heh, I myself am an Atheist, but whatever floats your boat JONG. ;)Quote:

Some went to try and straighten up there behavior, but by and large most of them went to serve. Of the nearly 7,500 DNA-tested Native Americans. None shows any link to ancient Israel. American Indians and Polynesians have a historic bond with ancient Israelites? Do tell.
hopped, nice work. I went to Spain - long ago. It was a great 2 years. I played it right so I only missed one full winter - of course it ended up being the winter of 92-93 which went OFF in the PNW. Pained me to get letters from my buddies.
Good luck. Keep it real.
Yo Dex, just chill out. You've beat this topic to death for years. We get it, okay?
7500 is not that many? I dunno. I can't explain everything, this is just a huge life changing thing that I wanted to share with my maggot amigos. Wasn't really meant to spark drama. If I was joining the Peace Corps I would have probably posted about that.
It's allright, maybe once you get out of the shade of the church you'll see the light.
Missionaries have done more harm than good throughout history.
congrats to you!
though I am not a religous person, I admire anyone who dedicates years of their life to the noble cause of helping others.
Congrats hopped! Although its not my thing, it would be nice to spend two years living abroad. And you can still look at the gals, just not think about looking right?
Wasnt the issue that they were ceremoniously baptizing holocaust victims?Quote:

If anything, you'll walk away from the experience a better and richer person for interaction involved in serving a mission, whatever path it leads you to.
I'm not a Mormon, but I believe the the qualities of one's life experiences are of paramount importance regardless of one's beliefs.
Again, good luck.
edit: one word and a comma.
Good Luck. Be kind. Bring shorts... that place is HOT.
So when will you be leaving for Brazil?
If you are stoked about this and feel you are doing the right thing, that's all that really matters. It's your life. Live it as you choose.
Congrats Hopped! Brazil seems to be where a lot of us are headed.... That sounds sweet. Im so excited to be in your shoes, (although maybe I shouldnt post that here) Congrats again! and remember this is your last season for a while so ski as much as you possibly can.
Rock on Hopped. That's a huge oportunity, and I know I would jump on it anytime (yes a colder climate would be nicer, but...) Anyone who gives his life (or two years of it) for others deserves much respect.
To everyone who is complaining: Give it a break. That is all.

nope they send you straight to the CTM in Sao Paolo for "approximately 62 days" or until they feel you're ready and then dump you out into the field.Quote:

Congrats on your calling. 2 years will go by faster than you'll think possible.
The snow will still be here when you get back. Though it may not seem quite as important.
Okay, that's just fucking retarded.Quote:

I'll just keep it short and say this for my part:
I hope you, as a skier, go safely and you have the opportunity to see some things that put your cult-like upbringing into perspective and allow you to find freedom and begin to think for yourself.
The suit thing is pretty standard.Quote:

Also, take advantage of the opportunity to see Brazil, during and after your mission. Some of my friends who have just returned talk about being in two different cities and not straying more than a few miles from either. Some of them regret it and others were happy to get back to Utah and never want to leave the state again. One wants to go back and open a Hard Rock Cafe in Oslo, but in the meantime he's collecting a herem at BYU. ;)
I hope you come home safely, have a great experience, meet lots of cool people, and don't convert anyone. :D ;)
