Maybe Moroni will call you to go to Bolivia or Peru, then you can get out and bag some peaks in the Andes when no one is looking.

He chose to put it out there, and shouldn't assume that everyone is going ot endorse it. Proselytizing is perverse, and has a pretty grim history attached to it--Mormon proselytizing is unusually bizarre (and offensive to some) in that Mormons claim to have converted ancestors of those they have converted.
    Not cool.

Sorry Dex, I was very excited- this is a huge thing in my life. If you ask them not to come by- they won't, simple as that hopefully. If not, they're breaking rules. If you've been offended by missionaries in the past I'm sorry.

As an aside, they don't claim to have converted the ancestors, they claim to give the ancestors a choice of converting in their ethereal state, a pretty core Mormon doctrine is free agency.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for informing us hopped. Unfortunately, people criticize what they don't understand most of the time.

Good to have the return missionary folk around here at work. Most of them have served in spanish speaking communities, and they can translate for us monolingual folks.

I guess you'll be learning portugese.

Excuse me, is this the forum where we have to subscribe to the one true religion (whichever that is)?

Hopped, get used to the criticism. Very few Catholics are gonna buy what you're selling. You gotta another problem mon...those Brazilian babes are Hot, oh ya! Ya gonna be having those naughty thoughts

Meat, it's not so noble and selfless - he's earning Godpoints for himself by Evangelizing, not volunteering for Mercy Corp or Doctors without Frontiers.

I've known a very large number of missionairies in my life. I've even had 2 sisters serve missions. Most of my friends left on missions right after highschool. Some of them went because their parents made them. Some of them went because they didn't know what else to do. Some went to try and straighten up there behavior, but by and large most of them went to serve. They went do help their fellow humans by giving them the opportunity to hear what they believe to be true and give them a decent recipe for a good life. Maybe you believe in the organizations you listed above more than this particular religion, but then again maybe hopped believes more in his cause than yours. Live and let live. I've got a tremendous amount of respect for someone who would dedicate 2 years of their life to service. If you'd like to continue this conversation out of this thread you're more than welcome to PM me. I'd prefer to not mess up hopped's thread any more than it is.

    Again congrats hopped.

Hopped, the power to you, do what ya wish.

If you knocked on my door I would ask you something along this train of though.

Of the nearly 7,500 DNA-tested Native Americans. None shows any link to ancient Israel. American Indians and Polynesians have a historic bond with ancient Israelites? Do tell.

hopped, nice work. I went to Spain - long ago. It was a great 2 years. I played it right so I only missed one full winter - of course it ended up being the winter of 92-93 which went OFF in the PNW. Pained me to get letters from my buddies.

    Good luck. Keep it real.

Yo Dex, just chill out. You've beat this topic to death for years. We get it, okay?

7500 is not that many? I dunno. I can't explain everything, this is just a huge life changing thing that I wanted to share with my maggot amigos. Wasn't really meant to spark drama. If I was joining the Peace Corps I would have probably posted about that.

It's allright, maybe once you get out of the shade of the church you'll see the light.

Missionaries have done more harm than good throughout history.

Wasnt the issue that they were ceremoniously baptizing holocaust victims?

    God luck to you Hopped.
I don't see it as imposing, but more as presenting your view for others to decide.
If anything, you'll walk away from the experience a better and richer person for interaction involved in serving a mission, whatever path it leads you to.
I'm not a Mormon, but I believe the the qualities of one's life experiences are of paramount importance regardless of one's beliefs.

    Again, good luck.
