Svengali, I agree with what you are saying about the one party in control issues. I really think we should just get rid of parties altogether; or have 4-5 viable parties rather than the 2 we have now. All the 2 party system does is polarize the population. You are right I think we are arguing symantics and our views are probably not that far from each other. I will say that I found the comaprison to Russia and China inflamatory and that's what really drove my response.
See you on the snow, maybe they'll have the election figured out by then.

I hope a court battle for the Presidency is not in our future. I would like to see a the electoral college stay but it wouldn't be all or nothing. The electoral votes would be divided based on the percentage of the popular vote for each state. This way when a state goes 51% to 49% to a candidate the 49% of voters could still be heard. I doubt this is likely to happen though.
And John Henry (owner of the Red Sox) is making his personal jet available to the Dem. lawyers to get where they need to go.
Dave, who did you find to vote for that got less votes than Nader? Lyndon Larouche? Seriously, I'm curious.

gin, it's the ballots that were cast by people who for some reason didn't show up on the voting lists in their precincts, for whatever reason. those people get to cast a provisional vote, but their vote is not counted in the inital tally. if the sum of these provisonal votes is greater than the sum of the votes the state is won by, as is the case in ohio, then they are counted. but as they are counted they are also looked at for validity, and many of them get thrown out at that point. it is a painstaking process that aparently will last two weeks. i heard earlier this morning that 93% of those votes would have to be for kerry in order for him to pull ohio. in past senatorial elections the highest percentage of these votes theat has ever been counted has been 17%. so its a shot in the dark as it seems to me.
