Two losses in one Olympics. Way to be, boys. Team's only got one guy who can shoot a three, even at 21'6". I'd say that's a big part of the problem.
Granted, int'l officiating sucks, but still.

no excuse to lose like that.

Guess you've never heard of the 1972 debacle, when the USSR got three illegal chances to win the gold.
Hey at least they made the olympics, unlike the baseball team.
True, but we didn't send a supposed 'Dream Team' to qualify in baseball.
Well, as most NBA players probably said, and Lance, too, fuck the Olympics.
Yeah but you would think the country with the most baseball talent in the world would be able to field a team that would at least make it there.Quote:

That's what I was going to say.
What's the deal, there aren't 25 college guys sitting around better than these other teams?
Wrong sport for college.
I am glad Lithuania won today. They seemed more excited. They wanted it. Taking nothing for granted.
keep in mind Lithuania was predicted to win the gold before it all started.
One would think . . . last time they barely won it with minor leaguers . . . baseball is a wierd sport.Quote:

The difference is the NBA players weren't busting their ass at the tour two wweeks before the Olympics. Lance declined his place on the team because he thought he'd be too beat from the TdF to be of any worth at the Olympics.Quote:

But this is way too embarassing. I was thinking about Herb Brooks' speech before the miracle on ice, when he said "If we played them 10 times, they'd probably win 9". But this BS is going to hurt the NBA in ways these overpayed idiots will never get.
it just goes to show you the NBA has turned into a bunch of streetball players who can't play as a team. The funniest thing to me is the 3-point line is closer in the olympics, but the NBA players can't hit crap.
I agree these players are very over payed for what they do and I also believe the NBA is no longer got the best "team" based basketball teams. I will say they are very good "one-on-one" players but basketball is a team sport. The rules in the NBA have been changed to make it more of a "one-on-one" game instead of a team game. I personally wish they would make it more of a team game again. I also wish they would emphasize shooting jump shots more. It gets kind of old watching people dunk it all the time and no one shooting good jump shots or setting up their teammates. Yes i know there are a few exceptions to my generalized statement, but I just want to see more team based ball instead of one-on-one.Quote:

jackace, I have to totally disagree, the NBA is still much betta that any other pro league.
Anyone who thinks that this team represents the NBA's highest level of talent needs to pull their head out of thier ass.
Iverson, if not THE worst, is for sure one the worst team players in the NBA. Only worthy "cream of the NBA crop" team orentated type player with fundamentals is Duncan.
where are the K.G., Shaq, Kidd, 'Sheed Wallace type players? Shit Detroit alone would go undefeated in this olympics. Hypothetically speaking Id put my money on Duke to metal.
nba bASKET BALL sucks
its my PO
ask me why and perhaps I'll tell!
otherwise............
Costas reported last night that after the game with Lithuania, the US team now has a better 3point %age than only one other team...
the Russian women's team.
Before the game with Lithuania, they were the worst in the entire Olympics.
Flatter me Mac Daddy tell me why NBA basketball sucks.
Are they too spoiled, get payed too much? SOme too shelfish? Maybe so, but the NBA players are still BY FAR the best basketball players in the world.

-half-hearted efforts
-nobody plays defense until the playoffs
-No ball movement
-No back-cuts
-No pick and rolls
-No give and go's
-too much travelling
-Players coming out of college early, and are not polished
-High schoolers (Kobes will be a rare occurance)
-League is diluted with too many teams
-Players rarely stay with the same team for very long
-Many are overpaid for their lame efforts
-The players manage the coach
-Alan Iverson currently plays
-Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant arguing about who's the man
-The NBA Draft has become nothing but a gamble of unproven "talent"
NBA: A NEW LOW
It's all a conspiracy. Who wants to watch a US basketball team win by 30 points every night? It does nothing for the ratings. Make the US team seem like an underdog to boost the tv ratings by having them struggle through the prelims, and then watch them start beating these teams with medals on the line. US will play either Spain, Italy, or Argentina in their next game. The same Italy team that routed them a few weeks ago.
we shoulda just sent duke or something.
Or Princeton.
US having the most baseball talent in the world!?!? Not even close, look at any MLB team roster. I would say about 3/4 of them are from somewhere in South America.Quote:

I think these olympics show that basketball is a team sport and putting a bunch of individuals just doesn't work (you could have also asked the Lakers about that one....)
I think this is a huge problem with the olympic team. Also Iverson/Larry Brown--we saw how well that worked in Philly.Quote:

I don't see why everyone hates on Iverson so much. The "practice" comments were pretty pathetic on his part, but aside from that he's given me pretty much everything else I demand from an athlete, including:
1. Desire to win. AI puts his heart and soul into every game I've seen him play. I have never seen the guy dog it on the court, which is more than you can say for half the guys in the NBA. Watch how much AI runs around in one game or how much effort he puts out on defense before you criticize.
2. Plays through pain. I don't think people recognize that AI is naturally about 170 pounds and has been throwing himself up against 250-300 pounders every game for the last 8 years. He takes a ton of abuse, probably more than any little man I've ever seen in the NBA.
3. Accepts responsibility. When the Sixers lose Iverson is usually the one to come out and take the blame. Same thing has happened in these Olympics.
4. Warrior mentality. I like to see a guy willing to trash talk, never wanting to back down from any one at any time. To me that's a big part of playing basketball. Larry Bird had it 100% and his level of trash talk was just as "ghetto" as AI. When you're one of the best, intimidating the opposition is the first step towards beating them (see Jordan, Michael).
If you look at these Olympics, he's played his role fine. The problem is that there is no real point guard on the team and nobody to take outside shots besides him. Stephon Marbury is an abortion of a player and the rest of the team was scared to shoot. AI shouldered the offensive load those first three games and went 7-22 from three point range - not great, but a hell of a lot better than the rest of the scared pussycat "star guards" who were going 3-40!
Really I can only assume that people hate AI so much b/c of lingering racial tensions and fear of the ghetto rat/hip-hop tatted up "gangsta" being the face of the NBA. Tim Duncan doesn't want it, the people never wanted Kobe, and Yao isn't there yet. Get over yourselves
Well. They made the playoffs every year and went to the NBA finals. In other words, just as much as any team other than the Pistons, Lakers and Spurs.Quote:

shamrockpow-
I like Iverson, his persona, great additude, huge heart- everything you said. But I am not trying to fool myself, his playing style does not bring out the best in the people around him.

how can we blame AI. look at the sheisty players we got on this olympic squad. richard jefferson? only thing he can do is play defense and get a few lucky offensive rebounds. carlos boozer, is like jefferson but worse. marbury is the designated 'second best point guard' in the league, but since i have yet to see him dish the ball or make a shot yet, i'd say he's at least equal to jason kidd for the best point in the league (kidd sucks). what's really fucked up is that the dumbass coach won't play his best players. if AI, Lebron, Carmello, Duncan, and Odom/Marion were on the floor most the game we'd probably be undefeated. and to say that these five/six are your best players is a pretty sad statement when there are about four other starting lineups you could make that would be better. where's the kobe, ray allen, shaq, duncan, and garnett lineup?
When it come's to the Olympics, I am pretty patriotic. I actually take pleasure watching the "feel good" stories from other countries having their dreams crushed by an American athlete. But....the U.S mens basketball team....BAWAAAAAAAHA...LOVE IT! Greedy, Selfish Bastards! Lose to Puerto Rico? I have been there many times. I don't ever remember seeing a basketball court. Dream Team? If I here that 1 more time I'll puke. Jordan, Magic, Barkley, Bird are the dream team. Those old farts could still probably kick everyones ass.
How about womens beach volleyball? No titties but some fine ass shots. I'd post pics but I don't have the skills....
& we have covered the men's hoops team subject like 7 times already & you can find my thoughts there.Quote:
