    New record for US Basketball

Two losses in one Olympics. Way to be, boys. Team's only got one guy who can shoot a three, even at 21'6". I'd say that's a big part of the problem.
Granted, int'l officiating sucks, but still.

Guess you've never heard of the 1972 debacle, when the USSR got three illegal chances to win the gold.

True, but we didn't send a supposed 'Dream Team' to qualify in baseball.

Yeah but you would think the country with the most baseball talent in the world would be able to field a team that would at least make it there.

That's what I was going to say.
What's the deal, there aren't 25 college guys sitting around better than these other teams?

I am glad Lithuania won today. They seemed more excited. They wanted it. Taking nothing for granted.

One would think . . . last time they barely won it with minor leaguers . . . baseball is a wierd sport.

The difference is the NBA players weren't busting their ass at the tour two wweeks before the Olympics. Lance declined his place on the team because he thought he'd be too beat from the TdF to be of any worth at the Olympics.

But this is way too embarassing. I was thinking about Herb Brooks' speech before the miracle on ice, when he said "If we played them 10 times, they'd probably win 9". But this BS is going to hurt the NBA in ways these overpayed idiots will never get.

it just goes to show you the NBA has turned into a bunch of streetball players who can't play as a team. The funniest thing to me is the 3-point line is closer in the olympics, but the NBA players can't hit crap.

But this BS is going to hurt the NBA in ways these overpayed idiots will never get.
I agree these players are very over payed for what they do and I also believe the NBA is no longer got the best "team" based basketball teams. I will say they are very good "one-on-one" players but basketball is a team sport. The rules in the NBA have been changed to make it more of a "one-on-one" game instead of a team game. I personally wish they would make it more of a team game again. I also wish they would emphasize shooting jump shots more. It gets kind of old watching people dunk it all the time and no one shooting good jump shots or setting up their teammates. Yes i know there are a few exceptions to my generalized statement, but I just want to see more team based ball instead of one-on-one.

    Exclamation

jackace, I have to totally disagree, the NBA is still much betta that any other pro league.

Anyone who thinks that this team represents the NBA's highest level of talent needs to pull their head out of thier ass.

Iverson, if not THE worst, is for sure one the worst team players in the NBA. Only worthy "cream of the NBA crop" team orentated type player with fundamentals is Duncan.

where are the K.G., Shaq, Kidd, 'Sheed Wallace type players? Shit Detroit alone would go undefeated in this olympics. Hypothetically speaking Id put my money on Duke to metal.

Costas reported last night that after the game with Lithuania, the US team now has a better 3point %age than only one other team...

    the Russian women's team.

Before the game with Lithuania, they were the worst in the entire Olympics.
As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.

Flatter me Mac Daddy tell me why NBA basketball sucks.

Are they too spoiled, get payed too much? SOme too shelfish? Maybe so, but the NBA players are still BY FAR the best basketball players in the world.

    Reasons why the NBA Sucks:

    -half-hearted efforts
-nobody plays defense until the playoffs
    -No ball movement
    -No back-cuts
    -No pick and rolls
    -No give and go's
    -too much travelling
-Players coming out of college early, and are not polished
-High schoolers (Kobes will be a rare occurance)
-League is diluted with too many teams
-Players rarely stay with the same team for very long
-Many are overpaid for their lame efforts
    -The players manage the coach
    -Alan Iverson currently plays
-Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant arguing about who's the man
-The NBA Draft has become nothing but a gamble of unproven "talent"

It's all a conspiracy. Who wants to watch a US basketball team win by 30 points every night? It does nothing for the ratings. Make the US team seem like an underdog to boost the tv ratings by having them struggle through the prelims, and then watch them start beating these teams with medals on the line. US will play either Spain, Italy, or Argentina in their next game. The same Italy team that routed them a few weeks ago.

US having the most baseball talent in the world!?!? Not even close, look at any MLB team roster. I would say about 3/4 of them are from somewhere in South America.

I think these olympics show that basketball is a team sport and putting a bunch of individuals just doesn't work (you could have also asked the Lakers about that one....)

I think this is a huge problem with the olympic team. Also Iverson/Larry Brown--we saw how well that worked in Philly.
