I think this is awesome. I love my country, but it's great to see AI and others on that team (except Tim Duncan) get smacked.
But really who is on this team? Other than Duncan and AI, it's 'B' list NBA players... They don't play together as a team at all, they deserve to lose.
edit - 'who' for Basom, who apparently is critical of sentences that don't make sense.
No. But Really got cut.Quote:

I might understand if it wasn't 92-73.
The NBA of today, simply sucks.
I completely agree with you. I'm curious, how many traveling violations did they have? The modern NBA is like a fucking walking contest.Quote:

It's dunk ball now. I stopped watching after the Bird/Johnson era.Quote:

I for one I was happy to see a team win and egos lose.
Thank you, Puerto Rico!
We? Are you on the team? Seriosly, who gives a rat shit about anything Summer Olympics? Almost all the events are sports most could care less about, why is this crap even on TV?
Oh wait archery is on, OHHHHHH GOODY!
yeah, they just didn't show up to play and deserved the loss. I saw so many missed 3's it wasn't even funny. There was no hustle and no urgency.
AI summed it up well
stoked Arroyo is gonna be playing for the Jazz. kid has talentQuote:
"They play the game the way it's supposed to be played," Iverson said. "It's not about athletics. That's the game the way Karl Malone and John Stockton play it. It's good for kids to see how the game is supposed to be played."

Olympic swimming totally kicks ass. Same with the track and field.
Iverson is actually showing a lot of (gasp) class over the past few weeks.
This is surely inspiring much heated trash talk on the street courts in the Bronx and Manhattan. But, come to think of it, do Rican guys play basketball over here?
the three point line is just a jump shot for the NBA, 3 feet closer in, and they still cant hit shit...watching them lose to Puerto rico pissed me off, they aren't even supposed to be a contenderQuote:

if you can there are only a few
now name one on this team
somewhat true, this team can't shoot for shit.....but its just that much easier being 3 feet closer...If you can bang shots from 24 feet out, its just that much easier from 21....Quote:

I have to agree with most people here. I would rather see the U.S put the best college players out there. Much more fun to watch and would probably be more competitive with the rules.
Yes. Yes I am.Quote:

Actually I am a short white boy that couldn't even play for lichtenstien, let alone the U.S. I don't even really like basketball until Pitt starts playing. I just caught the end of the game and was amazed how bad the Americans lost.

None on this team, but plenty out there:Quote:

Brent Barry
Michael Redd
Richard Hamilton
Vince Carter
Jon Barry
Wesley Person
Wally Szerbiak
Allan Houston
Shane Battier
Chauncey Billups
Pat Garrity
Erick Piatowski
Fred Hoiberg
Casey Jacobsen
Jim Jackson
Voshon Lenard
The biggest problem with this team was the selection process that took guys like LBJ and Melo over Brent Barry or Michael Redd (each of whom could have really helped this squad) simply because they were bigger "names." All the players that backed out b/c they were too pussy to go to Athens doesn't help either.
My team USA without most of the big name stars would roll in this tournament:
Mike Bibby/Brent Barry
Michael Redd/Doug Christie
Shane Battier/LeBron
Lamar Odom/Kenyon Martin
Duncan/Brad Miller
Iverson could still be on my team, but him and Okafor would be the 11th and 12th picks...
Starting five should be:Quote:

All in all, I just can't wait for the college b-ball season. If I never saw another NBA game, I wouldn't miss it. NCAA, however, kicks serious ass.
I totally agree the NBA players suck and the rules are so loosely enforced in the NBA today that it has almost ruined the game. I love to play basketball and if you go play streetball in most major cities. They all look up to the NBA players and try to emulate them. When you take 3 and sometimes 4 steps without drippling of course you are going to beat the defense. When you carry the ball every other dribble (Iverson does this all the time) of course you can do some cool looking moves. When you can just lower your shoulder and run someone over and dunk the ball or shoot a lay-in while they are getting their ballance, or even getting up off the floor, it makes the game a whole lot easier. (Shaq does this all the time)
I personally feel that if you do not enforce the FUNDEMENTALS of a game you undermine the entire game and everything associated with it. I mean come on traveling, double-dribble, and charging are fundamentals of the game that make it what it is
And the NBA wonders why their ratings are in the toilet.
that is exactly my point no one who knows anything about basketball can stand to watch the game being bastardized by the NBA.
NCAA ball has suffered just as much in terms of quality of play as the NBA, if not more. How bored would a late '80's Duke or UNLV team be playing today's colleges? They'd be winning by like 80 points.
BTW, whatever happened to Moses Scurry?
The International game is so much different than NBA ball. The big inside players are rarely effective because the defense can just pack it in and deny the ball. The selection committee for the US hasn't realized this since the 92 team. There are plenty of american ball players who can shoot, they just aren't typically the high profile players, and many of them decided not to play.
How about the Argentina vs. S/M game? Ginobili was asked what the plan was for that final play. "We had no plan. Just do whatever."
I like the NBA style of play. Watching the International game would be a bit dull if it wasn't for the Olympic suspense.
What is S/M?
I can only think of one meaning and it has nothing to do with basketball.
I'll bite, but I am sure that you know the answer.Quote:

Serbia-Montenegro.
Oh, of course. I really couldn't think of what it meant, my mind is a fucking piece of shit this morning.
The NBA style of play is fine if you like it, but I would be willing to bet most poeple who played baketball in high school or college do not like to watch the NBA. The league sacrifices the fundamentals to try and make the game more entertaining. I believe they have went too far and allow too much slack. I mean come on these guys are "pros" and they can't even obey the most basic rules of the game.Quote:
