I think this is awesome. I love my country, but it's great to see AI and others on that team (except Tim Duncan) get smacked.

But really who is on this team? Other than Duncan and AI, it's 'B' list NBA players... They don't play together as a team at all, they deserve to lose.

edit - 'who' for Basom, who apparently is critical of sentences that don't make sense.

    I might understand if it wasn't 92-73.

The NBA of today, simply sucks.

I completely agree with you. I'm curious, how many traveling violations did they have? The modern NBA is like a fucking walking contest.

It's dunk ball now. I stopped watching after the Bird/Johnson era.

    Thumbs up

I for one I was happy to see a team win and egos lose.

    Thank you, Puerto Rico!

yeah, they just didn't show up to play and deserved the loss. I saw so many missed 3's it wasn't even funny. There was no hustle and no urgency.

    AI summed it up well

"They play the game the way it's supposed to be played," Iverson said. "It's not about athletics. That's the game the way Karl Malone and John Stockton play it. It's good for kids to see how the game is supposed to be played."
stoked Arroyo is gonna be playing for the Jazz. kid has talent

Iverson is actually showing a lot of (gasp) class over the past few weeks.

This is surely inspiring much heated trash talk on the street courts in the Bronx and Manhattan. But, come to think of it, do Rican guys play basketball over here?

the three point line is just a jump shot for the NBA, 3 feet closer in, and they still cant hit shit...watching them lose to Puerto rico pissed me off, they aren't even supposed to be a contender

somewhat true, this team can't shoot for shit.....but its just that much easier being 3 feet closer...If you can bang shots from 24 feet out, its just that much easier from 21....

I have to agree with most people here. I would rather see the U.S put the best college players out there. Much more fun to watch and would probably be more competitive with the rules.

    Yes. Yes I am.

Actually I am a short white boy that couldn't even play for lichtenstien, let alone the U.S. I don't even really like basketball until Pitt starts playing. I just caught the end of the game and was amazed how bad the Americans lost.

None on this team, but plenty out there:
    Brent Barry
    Michael Redd
    Richard Hamilton
    Vince Carter
    Jon Barry
    Wesley Person
    Wally Szerbiak
    Allan Houston
    Shane Battier
    Chauncey Billups
    Pat Garrity
    Erick Piatowski
    Fred Hoiberg
    Casey Jacobsen
    Jim Jackson
    Voshon Lenard

The biggest problem with this team was the selection process that took guys like LBJ and Melo over Brent Barry or Michael Redd (each of whom could have really helped this squad) simply because they were bigger "names." All the players that backed out b/c they were too pussy to go to Athens doesn't help either.

My team USA without most of the big name stars would roll in this tournament:
    Mike Bibby/Brent Barry
    Michael Redd/Doug Christie
    Shane Battier/LeBron
    Lamar Odom/Kenyon Martin
    Duncan/Brad Miller

Iverson could still be on my team, but him and Okafor would be the 11th and 12th picks...

    Starting five should be:

    PG -- Kidd
    SG -- Bryant
    SF -- Carter
    PF -- Duncan
    C -- O'Neal

All in all, I just can't wait for the college b-ball season. If I never saw another NBA game, I wouldn't miss it. NCAA, however, kicks serious ass.

I totally agree the NBA players suck and the rules are so loosely enforced in the NBA today that it has almost ruined the game. I love to play basketball and if you go play streetball in most major cities. They all look up to the NBA players and try to emulate them. When you take 3 and sometimes 4 steps without drippling of course you are going to beat the defense. When you carry the ball every other dribble (Iverson does this all the time) of course you can do some cool looking moves. When you can just lower your shoulder and run someone over and dunk the ball or shoot a lay-in while they are getting their ballance, or even getting up off the floor, it makes the game a whole lot easier. (Shaq does this all the time)

I personally feel that if you do not enforce the FUNDEMENTALS of a game you undermine the entire game and everything associated with it. I mean come on traveling, double-dribble, and charging are fundamentals of the game that make it what it is

And the NBA wonders why their ratings are in the toilet.

that is exactly my point no one who knows anything about basketball can stand to watch the game being bastardized by the NBA.
