I thought women wearing Leotards, Pantyhose, headbands, and legwarmers were hot, especially the Aerobics Chix on TV.
Parachute pants
Flat top haircuts. If I had hair now I would prolly do it again though!
I liked duran duran, had Rio recorded onto a tape labeled as Metallica
I had an entire contingency plan formulated and ready for when and if the scenario from Red Dawn actually happened. Me and my buddies were heading for the hills, I had an equipment list mentally prepared. We would fight the Russians with our Crossman air rifles until we could capture some AK-47s and RPGs. :rolleyes2
The English Beat, Adam Ant, Cheap Trick, Thompson Twins, Thomas Dolby, and yes, I even saw Culture Club live. Craziness.
Duran Duran, tight jeans rolled up at the ankles, spiked hair, and nut-hugging striped short shorts. And no, I wasn't gay!

Real punk rock.
All those bands played the club where I worked back then. Actually The English Beat is a truly excellent band for the most part; they shouldn't be with the rest of that list.Quote:

True dat on Punk Rock. I dug Agent Orange, Minutemen, Crass, Butthole Surfers, Replacements, Violent Femmes, (not punk?), Husker Du, Bob Mould, etc...gotta go put on some Vinyl!!
Oh, I agree, English Beat were really quite great.
We were seperated at birth...My friends and I saw that movie and walked away with the impression that this sort of thing not only could happen but was imminent. My treehouse was considered a good "safe house" and we debated the need to stock up on emergency provisions (ie twinkies). Our school mascot was even the fearsome Bobcat, which was a good north east substitue for wolverines. The truly tough choices were which one of us would be the Swayze.....none of us had hair that pretty.Quote:

Twenty years later, the girl who burned the song into my mind forever is divorced from some dude and single now, walking around Chicago with a big ole rear end and a big job. I saw her last year by chance for the first time in a decade on a hot day when I was filled with Miller Lite, and immediately I thought of this song. Shame about her overstuffed trunk.
If you've got love in your sites
Watch out, love bites
When you make love, do you look in the mirror?
Who do you think of?
Does he look like me?
Do you tell lies?
And say that it's forever?
Do you think twice, or just touch and see
Ooh babe
Ooh yeah
When you're alone, do you let go?
Are you wild and willin or is it just for show?
Ooh C'mon
I don't wanna touch you too much baby
'Cos making love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't wanna be there when you decide to break it
No!
Chorus
(Love bites, love bleeds)
It's bringin' me to my knees
(Love lives, love dies)
It's no surprise
(Love begs, love pleads)
It's what I need
When I'm with you, are you somewhere else?
Am I gettin' thru or do you please yourself?
When you wake up, will you walk out?
It can't be love if you throw it about
Ooh babe
I don't wanna touch you too much baby
'Cos making love to you might drive me crazy
Oh
Chorus
(Love bites, love bleeds)
It's bringin' me to my knees
(Love lives, love dies)
It's no surprise
(Love begs, love pleads)
It's what I need
Oh yeah!

If you've got love in your sights
Watch out, love bites
Yes it does
Bloody Hell
Oh yeah. I remember loving Def Leppard :) Pour some sugar on me!!!!
Others: Debbie Gibson, New Kids on the Block
Oh god, I used to love that crap. I can still sing the lyrics if you want me to :)
One phrase sums it up:
"Goonies never say die"
But, I still think that is the greatest movie ever made, so I guess I can admit it.
80's = Coked out generation
John Hughes movies before the Home Alone series ruined him. Vacation, Ferris Bueller, and anything else set in Shermer, Ill.
I had the biggest boom box on my street :yourock:

still are! last year, I saw they were playing this rather small bar in Fairfax (SF bay area), and thought "no way! they must be old and desperate" - anyway, decided to roll on over that Sat night out of curiosity. Well, I am here to say, they still sound awesome! Dave Wakling (sp?) looked and sounded great, band was super-tight, horns and all, and the place was packed to the gills with 30-soemthings like me reliving their 80s youth, everyone singing every song, doing the ska pogo dance, it was, no kidding, one of the bst times i have had at a show in some time. Check them out, they are touring this summer!Quote:

Yes, I too loved Ska - The Beat, The Selecter, Madness, The Special AKA.... (I even rode a Vespa.)
I owned a Nelson album :nonono2:
I used to sit with my Adam and the Ants and Five Star albums and sing along reading the lyrics off the album covers.
I totally LOVED Adam Ant. Unfortunately he was admitted to the pyschiatric ward my cousin works on 3 years ago for throwing a carburettor through a pub window. He's also very fat now as well as loopy.
First concert ever: 5th grade, George Michael Faith Tour, Fiddlers Green, Denver.Quote:
