I had an entire contingency plan formulated and ready for when and if the scenario from Red Dawn actually happened. Me and my buddies were heading for the hills, I had an equipment list mentally prepared. We would fight the Russians with our Crossman air rifles until we could capture some AK-47s and RPGs.

All those bands played the club where I worked back then. Actually The English Beat is a truly excellent band for the most part; they shouldn't be with the rest of that list.

Bands that would fit on the list quite well include Flock of Seagulls, Haircut 100, Men at Work, etc. etc.

Oh, I agree, English Beat were really quite great.

We were seperated at birth...My friends and I saw that movie and walked away with the impression that this sort of thing not only could happen but was imminent. My treehouse was considered a good "safe house" and we debated the need to stock up on emergency provisions (ie twinkies). Our school mascot was even the fearsome Bobcat, which was a good north east substitue for wolverines. The truly tough choices were which one of us would be the Swayze.....none of us had hair that pretty.

Def Leppard's "Love Bites". It bit me then after what was probably the first snub that I experienced - the first one hurts and the song was a perfect comfort jam, nowadays I normally appreciate the giving or receiving of a snub as a normal, almost unemotional exit technique that when done properly can be admired like a fine painting.

Twenty years later, the girl who burned the song into my mind forever is divorced from some dude and single now, walking around Chicago with a big ole rear end and a big job. I saw her last year by chance for the first time in a decade on a hot day when I was filled with Miller Lite, and immediately I thought of this song. Shame about her overstuffed trunk.

still are! last year, I saw they were playing this rather small bar in Fairfax (SF bay area), and thought "no way! they must be old and desperate" - anyway, decided to roll on over that Sat night out of curiosity. Well, I am here to say, they still sound awesome! Dave Wakling (sp?) looked and sounded great, band was super-tight, horns and all, and the place was packed to the gills with 30-soemthings like me reliving their 80s youth, everyone singing every song, doing the ska pogo dance, it was, no kidding, one of the bst times i have had at a show in some time. Check them out, they are touring this summer!

I used to sit with my Adam and the Ants and Five Star albums and sing along reading the lyrics off the album covers.

I totally LOVED Adam Ant. Unfortunately he was admitted to the pyschiatric ward my cousin works on 3 years ago for throwing a carburettor through a pub window. He's also very fat now as well as loopy.
