What's the story with Alaska weather conditions? I've heard rumors that it's been a lousy winter.
Any idea what conditions are like in the Chugach right now?

??? curious as well.
looks like they're supposed to start getting some snow this week.
I'm going to Canada.
the wind is fuking it all up, especially with (virtually) no fresh for a month or so. Snow should come late next week
I hope things get better. I'm scheduled for my first ever heli ski trip to AK the first week of April. It's going to suck if I have to ski terrible snow.
I would go somewhere else this year. It's windhammed all over.
super fun day out of 33 mile haines today. we skied pow. it was nice.
Leaving next Saturday what I see is 30% cahnce next week a couple of days. Last 5 years had trips planned and had bad conditions before I left and got dumped on right before or when I was there hope it happens this time first trip to AK.

well, i heard from guides up there that some of the burlier lines need about 10ft to fill in so it better get hammering....
the "burlier lines" aren't in the cards for those of us heading to PNH April 2 but those trees on top of the local hill in Cordova were green this morning and they're covered in white tonight. I'm just saying... there's still hope.

Haines is pretty good, everyhting else is shit.
Ask PowTron how good Haines was... if he even wants to talk about it. Might be better now, though. I know some snow fell.
I really need to get to Haines. It must be a magical place. Amazing how .2" of moisture made it pretty good while everything else is shit. We actually got more precipitation in the Cordova area and it bonded nicely with the ice and sastrugi. Thankfully that is all behind us now. We have gotten 8" fresh in the last two days at 1000'. This trend is suppossed to continue for the next few days with a bigger low coming middle of next week. These steady warm temps with gradual acumalatoin of snow might be the right remedy. I would expect by April you may be hoping for bluebird to enjoy the conditions. Noticed the pavement was dry in Haines today. Nobody bragging about their Blue Hole this year.Quote:

Reporting heavy snow in Gwood today. Might pick up, but usually March is the heavy snow month and it tapers into April (last year being unusually rad).
definitely thigh deep and blower in the gut of hangover today. indy 500 was good too and got some really amazing turns on tee top client run too. supposed to have some precip coming too. haines is shaping up a little.
The snow in the Chugach is bunk this year. Worst snowfall totals for the resort in the past 20 years. Totally bullsh!t.
Oh, and AKgeo reported "heavy" snow in Girdwood... more like 9 inches and nothing else a week before or (so far) after. Bunk. Let's not pretend like 9 inches is a heavy snowfall. This year it is. It is pathetic.
Any body have word on Aleyeska lately. Considering booking a mid april trip. Is there going to be enough covereage or should I just wait until next year?
