If we thought the men were bad, the women were appalling. It looked like a gargantuan struggle to make it down the course on their own in qually. The races oughtta be exciting seeing 4 of them try at once...or not.

if the course is giving snowbaords this much trouble, they better alter it a lot or there are going to be many ski cross injuries.
I thought men's Olympic downhills had to be at least a 1,000 meter descent?
edit: answering my own question. According to this the vertical must be 800-1000 meters.
Is it just me or did the snowboard cross chick seem high in her post race interview? Second coming of Rebagliatti? Maybe she's just french?
Anyone want to meet up for some turns next week? I'll be skiing up there Tuesday-Friday and bringing avy gear, but not lugging the touring skis along.
Man, I can't stop wondering why the hell the Subaru Freeskiing guys don't have an act in this competition. Whistler would be the perfect location. It would be downright sickness. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I want more cowbell.
Well, i guess I'm pumped we won a gold but Snowboard Cross? really? It just looks like a slow, no talent unworthy event.
For me, it really exposes snowboarded for how lame it is when they crash and have to crawl on their hands and knees up the jumps.
Boarder Cross is right up there with Curling. Stupid.
You guys can suck a big fat one for baggin on the boarder cross!!
Open your minds and maybe try it.
Right. maybe we should try curling too.
Trackhead, you mean like cross country skiing?
^and it actually requires you to break a sweat.
Snowboard cross is embarrassing. :nonono2:
Gigi Ruf is not embarassing, however.
A little redemption after snowboard cross...

Went back to the city last night for Chinese New Year Dinner and to watch Canada vs Switzerland in Womens Hockey
First off = warmest winter in 115 winters of Vancouver recorded history (yeah its a young city) => damn bulbs blooming in the garden already

Contrast to Whistler the next day (today) when it snowed to valley floor

Really wanted to get a pic with Quaatch but would have been bad form to elbow the kids out of the way

Lots of kids at the game loving it

Spirited game - the Swiss played good defence and worked hard but got pretty sloppy in the last half of the second period and third period and kind of abandoned their poor goalie

(don't forget a maggot is reppin' for america)
I was a Steward near the start of the Men's Olympic Downhill on Whistler on Feb 15th. They do look like they're going pretty fast!

this is a nice touch, i imagine left there by the volunteers. appeared only a fraction of a second in the broadcast:
You'll say the same thing about this period in time. It will have been the birth years of olympic tyrannosaurus fire pit rocket pack boarder cross. But by then we'll have this history that we are forging as we speak to fall back upon and espouse the event's rich heritage.
I just watched the women's boardercross and the last few semi-finals were fukkin gripped. Jacobelli, the favorite who chunked the gold doing a showoff grab in Torino, went down in the semi's for the shocker. Good head to head and toe to toe action on the course.
I'm not the biggest fan of BX either, especially when the course is so bumped out that everyone is sliding and spinning around. What do you think of Parallel GS though? I think it's just as entertaining to watch as skier slalom. What I don't understand is why they won't do a snowboard Super-G race. That would be pretty amazing to watch I would think.
There should definitely be a skier halfpipe too. You've already spent all that money carving out and maintaining the pipe, just let the skiers run it too!
http://www.leelau.net/2010/olympics/...hiIMG_0657.jpg
Are you sure that wasn't Pedobear? ....... ;)
I'm surprised they haven't added skier halfpipe by now anyway. Snowboarding halfpipe is relatively new by olympic standards but after spending loot on cutting the damn thing it does seem real stupid not to let the skiers run it. But then again it may bring the ratings down if nbc doesn't have figure skating on all day instead of USA hockey...schmucks
Hah -- ~V~ and I just bribed some kids with candy and Molson Ice to let us cut in line

I'm enjoying the Ivans take apart Latvia right now ... I'll be watching a lot of CNBC these coming nights if they keep showing hockey.
Ski half pipe didn't get their act together soon enough on the world cup stage to qualify itself as an established event. They needed a certain number of FIS world cup events a couple years back for it to be included. It should have no problems for Sochi.
Canada's game was a blast tonight. I am becoming the zen master of 'managing' lineups and 'upgrading' to wicked seats!!
who's that dude in the white with the flag? :D

We went down to LiveCity Yaletown afterwrads to see Alexisonfire. Moshed to the punk warmup band and it was going super fun time. Then the crowd surged big time for Alexisonfire and annihilated the barrier at the front of the stage. Concert cancelled and we were out!
