I think even before the season started Alonso was designated as the #1.

The decision to issue orders was probably reached on the pit wall @ Hockenheim. If the team had put together some kind of plan beforehand you would think they could of come up with something a little more clever then: "Fernando is faster then you. Did you understand that message?" Then again maybe Ferrari didn't give a shit and knew they would probably get away with it.

Obviously the decision has worked out well. Alonso has been on fire & Massa has been a mess. Massa can't really believe he'll be level with Alonso if he returns next season.

I'm sure Ferrari were expecting to have to replace Massa after giving him "a go" back in the car at the first race of the year after his injury.

Has anyone found good discussion of the design/ engineering of Red Bull's RB6? I'm fascinated by how good it is...

Alonso said five races ago that five podiums gets him the world championship and that probably holds true for tomorrow. The first corner in Abu Dhabi is also one of the easiest on the F1 calender so conventional wisdom says that overtaking will be very difficult.

I watched the North American premier of the Senna documentary at Sundance this evening. If you get the chance to see it, you really should make the effort.

Total bummer. It was looking like this year might have been his year.

Today he moved his hand. Latest report is that the surgeons are very happy with how the surgery went and cautiously optimistic. They are pleased that there isn't too much swelling. He woke up briefly to speak with family.

Kubica Will Require Further Surgery. Looks like he'll probably be out for the season. Thoughts on replacement? Senna? Grosjean? Heidfeld would be my choice.

Was just reading this on Planet F1...massive bummer. Probably the only F1 driver that would race for minimum wage. Hulkenberg would be a good choice, after his Brazil performance, but sounds like VJ has a tight grip on him. Grosjean is a total douche bag, Heidfeld is solid. Senna? Would be nice to see him in a faster car to see if he has consistent speed.

senna and grosjean are renault's reserve drivers. as much as i'd like to see senna get a good drive, it shouldn't be because kubica can't get into the car...

i'm proudly wearing kubica's hat from his BMW days. he's been my favourite underdog since then.

Hulkenberg or Heidfeld would be good choices. Sounds like Hulkenberg might not be available. If so I would go with Heidfeld as a replacement. I think he's the best choice to salvage the season. He is consistent and if the car is good he will get good results. I'm surprised he's out of F1 considering some of the other drivers on the grid.

Lots going on in the Malaysian GP yesterday. But much of it seemed artificial rather than real racing. Entertaining though.

Looks like we're in for a repeat of 02. Vettel should have the WDC clinched by Silverstone.

Ferrari or McLaren should bankroll one of the smaller teams like Hispania or Lotus and make it their job to take out Vettel. That would make the "races" at least mildly interesting. Well except Monaco. Nothing can save the world's most expensive parade.

As much as I love F1 I'm finally beginning to tire of it. Not enough passing/racing and qualifying position more or less determines the race.

Not a bad race in Kuala Lumpur as far as tv watching. Lots of jostling for position, everywhere except the lead. Good for Heidfeld, but kinda feels like he maybe ruined a good battle for the lead.

I am really getting sick of watching the pole sitter just drive away. I know people cringe at the idea as artificial, but reverse grid anyone?

Also, holy marbles! You could definitely tell where the racing line was this weekend!

As all may recall, F1 did away with, ya know, that whole inconvenient thing with the refueling and whatnot recent yrs ago. Now I'm beginning to see the connection here... was to pave the way for shoddy-tyre-based "racing" (and the resultant "passing" that passes for honest-to-goodness racin'). Could not be "achieved" earlier in the middle of a contract with Bridgestone, me thinks?

F1 should not be a control tire formula.

If it has to be one the tires should not be impacting the race so much.

That said it was an exciting race on Sunday.

I can't wait until Canada. Tyre degradation is going to be insane! Loved the Chinese Grand Prix (never thought I'd say that), The race was probably closer than it would have been if Red Bull could actually get their KERS working. I do hope Ferrari and Mercedes step it up though, I don't want to see this season become a two team race, or worse, have Vettel run away with the damn thing.
