Yeah, I found out about "storm recovery " when I got to HR. Pissing rain, no lifts open, we'll BC and the carpet. I'll ski in the rain with no lines...
Butts in chairs on HRM @ 9:17
Late opening or even being drenched is one thing but the skiing is shit right now. Even the untracked stuff is horrible. Oh well… sucks for all the kids camps though.
Sunrise base was the place to be. I, however, along with half the skiers was over at Summit West. Red popped at 11am. First run I thought I might tear a knee ligament. Was wishing for an extra 10 mm of width and more rocker. A slight breakable crust on top of that 9" was not to my liking.
Watching the avy dog getting face shots was the highlight of the morning.

I’m pretty sure Schmoodoo took the literal cake (batter) for being worst snow in Oregon this morning. Truly comical conditions off piste. It was 33F and raining at 840 AM … all the way to the summit. I knew it would be bad off piste but when my wife called it after two runs, I had to poke in to see for myself. And if you enjoy tailgunning deep cake batter that was cooked at 250F for just 15 minutes, then you might have enjoyed that kind of skiing! I’m sure I looked like a mega gaper but people on the chair were cheering at me … because the snow was so fucking awful. But hey, it isn’t even 2025 yet and we have a decent high density base, I’ll take it.
We took the dog for a walk around Clear Lake and that was much more enjoyable [emoji16]
And oh man is the McKenzie running seriously high water right now!
^ You need protests, they rule those conditions! Makes it effortless and unlocks a cheat code.

That’s how I felt at meadows on the Arv 95. First lap in untracked powder was treacherous and after eating shit on a blue groomer 2 minutes later (still no idea what happened), I called it quit. Did not even go to the car to pull the 115mm wide skis that might or might not have helped.
Tough on the kids too. They stopped the camp at 11:00. I had the 7 y.o. In a full melt down after I picked him up. Drenched and freezing. Took a while to recover from the multiple ”I never want to go skiing ever again!!“. Rewarding him with restaurant of choice for dinner for having been tough helped :D Looks like we’re good now. Lol.
Funny enough I had some new-to-me Billy Goat 118s in the truck … not quite Protests but partway there for these conditions. But because I was with my wife I knew I could not subject her to such misery so I grabbed my Woodsman 110s instead.
Yep!!!
I used to be good.

That's what we refer to as upside down pow.
All these glowing reports of powdery bliss are making the decision to not get out of the car justifiable
SSX and HRM both closed at 2:15. You don't see that often
We're gonna giver a go on Sunday, and I'll do Tuesday, just so I can get my count into double digits for the year
Le Snow this am at Bach.
Pow!
Tap, is that your kid making a pro-looking turn?
Where is that? The tree's are kinda growing sideways ;-)
Awesome shot
Smartphones auto tilt at Flachelor
Yessir!
That was on Red, right side lift line. The tree tilt is only cause she kept passing below me so I was panning to keep her in frame. Here’s one just prior.

Technically the wind is dying down
Is anyone going out to Meadows today, who could haul a teenager back to Portland with them? He’s on a logistically complex, multi-day, birthday party ski trip, and his ride back to town for today got sick and bailed.
It’s a lot to ask, and I wouldn’t be offended by radio silence as a response, but advice on transport options are also much appreciated.

@lucknau
Don't know how old your teen is or how feasible it is for them to ride public transport but there is a 4 hour bus and train route from mhm to PDX through the gorge.
Snow and conditions decidedly better this morning at Mt Brokenchairwindholddeicing.
