Replacing carpet and getting the headliner redone aren’t the worst DIY projects in the world. That’ll eliminate the smoke smell for sure.

Wow the box framing on that Peugeot!
Must be a stiff ride!

That goes a long way for sure, but unfortunately there also a LOT of HVAC ducting and components I'd have to address with that ride too. I used to detail cars but far less confident with my capabilities on this one. At least guy was honest with me. Said previous owner was smoker too so that's why he was like "Eff it" on this one and smoked it up. Must be pretty potent.

It's actually a hideous beaut. I kinda want it. What's the current bid tho? No takers? Curious how I'd go about even getting that one.

Does that car smell like cigarettes, moth balls, or baby powder.
I've used an ozone generator with pretty good results.

I thought the "wrong tranny..." was pretty descriptive. It seems that you should add auto transmission to your repertoire, they usually add to the unreliability rather than detract from it. It's also important to have AC that hasn't been converted to R134 and to have power steering that uses some weird formula fluid that's not made anymore. Take the emotional need for a manual out of the picture and it opens up a whole world of hurt.
This is some quest.
I'm exhausted.
That Peugeot has a pretty short wheelbase for the length of the body. With the V6 and rear independent suspension swap, I bet it would be fun to drive.
Perhaps Id be willing to try if there weren't other red flags. IF I really want to go the BMW V12 route, I can probably find a much nicer example for a few thousand more. Not sure if I want to tho. Had a fleeting temptation at impulse buy price territory. Haha

I had a co-worker once who drove Peugeots. His name was Francois. He was the only Frenchman I ever met who was over 6'0 tall and weighed over 220#. He used to stuff himself into a 505, and it looked like the goddamn Michelin man was driving.
Here's a good primer series on the BMW V12.

Some bullcrap, huh? That car in that condition should maybe be worth $1000-2000 at best. At $7.5K, seller can go screw himself.

Yes! 5 spd with hydropneumatic suspension for your maintenance pleasure. https://classics.autotrader.com/clas...n/bx/101659938
^ sick
The older v12 bimmers would be better. Basically two m2p welded together. MAP is a good car. Even has 2 ECU, one for each side. It's like maintaining two different motors. And the rest of the week is from when bmw actually made good cars. Fuck those newer 7 series. Monster pieces of shit with all kinds of major electrical and mechanical problems. Fuck that noise.
I know this goes against the nature of this thread...
Maserati biturbo convertible. That's whatcha want...
Mazda rx7 with toasted rotor tips could be a fun option if you aren't stuck on the whole euro thing...

Thanks for the intel. Yeah. Definitely open to a broken RX-7/8. I had a loaded 91 convertible that was super reliable for about 100K when I regrettably sold it. Did a rebuild on someone else's back in HS. EEEEAAAAAASY job. I have no fear of rotaries. Learned their quirks and maintenance needs, and they're actually a piece of cake. Easiest oil changes ever to boot. And yup, I got REAL good at getting them un-flooded, along with learning how not to flood them to begin with. Haha. Yup. Rotary fanboi here.

Rotary engine sounds perfect.
How about this RX-8? $1600, in Yuba City, CA. And give the seller props for an honest ad: "Super fun to drive when it's working."

That thing is what's wrong with America. RX8 auto-fucking-matic?!
A fully sorted 1st gen 7 with a 12A is super reliable car. My friend's race-prepped 3 dumped all of its oil on the track, the engine seized, and once it cooled off started right up and ran fine.
You're thinking about it all wrong. It's a perfect car for Montucky - once he gets the engine running properly, he can swap in a manual transmission.
Indeed. RX-8 + Auto = Worthless. RX-8 + Manual = usable power and actually fun Haha. I thought about that. Then looked into it. Some good forum threads about doing the conversion. Yes, it is doable, but apparently costs ran them close to 3 grand and the work is fairly extensive. For the price of that RX-8 plus the conversion, I might as well find one with the MT already in place. And hopefully without some crappy, unpainted body kit tacked on.
Haven't looked into it for a while, but few years back, you could find broken RX-8s for CHEAP. Wonder if that's still the case. Now you guys have my wheels turning. I could be tempted. Very neat car. Not fast, but superb handling and fun enough with the MT. I miss my RX-7 dearly. Loads of personality in that old car.

Montucky - I'm curious - can you list all the cars you've owned? I want to hear how weirdly varied an assortment you've had.
