I first went to Bachelor about 30 yrs ago. Stayed @ “The Inn of the Seventh Mountain” or something like that? I absolutely loved it. Before all the newer lifts were put in, etc.. We just lapped the Outback & were lucky enough to get in a couple summit days as well.
Anyway, when I left, I swore I’d be back. Hope to see some of you late March! A couple of us are coming from the beautiful flanks of Magic Mountain VT. We’re very used to broken lifts.
If you see Magic stickers, say hello. I’ll check in as we get closer. :yourock:
The mountain looking good this time of year.

I got out of my vehicle to help some people at that spot one time, it was like a bowling lane of cars coming at me on the ice sheet
Nice - it was overcast and the top socked in at 0730. Somebody in our crew took a similar photo about 0815.
I thought today was generally a win. Most chairs ran without prolonged stops, CCX ran more often than not, the gaper quotient was much lower than yesterday and the snow was nicer than expected. Still not brave enough to risk sitting on The Roulette Wheel for an hour or hiking out though…
@Rusty - yup it is Inn of the Seventh Mountain. Lived there one ski season while my house was being built.
Let us know when you come to Mt Brokenchair. Spring corn harvest off the top should be good this year.
Rusty>bring local ski hill stickers. Very valuable here.

I went old school yesterday. Not as fun as I remember. Volkl Kendo for the last half day was funner

Falling ice chunks made safety meeting dangerous

Gorgeous day
Anyone ever hear of lift managers slowing the lift, and stop loading to do ramp work for 5-7 minutes in the middle of the day?! I have never seen this before. Now MHM is doing this on MHX. Must be partly because of chair spacing. 96 carriers and they're closer together than any other HSD lift there. MHM went for 3,600pph. Most other 6 packs range from 3,000-3,200 pph
That sounded stupid. Not bringing stickers. We just have them on
our skis /helmets & such. Say hello if you see us!
Thanks TBS!
*Edit to add we'll be staying in Bend. Arrive 3/27. Ladies will be with us, they will ski a bit. Spa a bit, etc. Any recs for just about anything greatly appreciated. Food, mostly, not big drinkers. Is Smith Rock worth a hike if we take a day off from skiing? Certainly not climbers but love a good hike.
MHX broke. Patrol said it may run in reverse

Skin up, ride the chair down.
That sux k2. How permanent is the breakdown? Was planning a trip up tomorrow...
oof, that's no bueno
Looks like the whole lift fell over! :)
Vibes to the MHM crew. We at Mt Brokenchair can relate.
Speaking of, we had another day of nothing breaking! Gorgeous spring like conditions, except it didn’t corn up much. And Summit opened after three days of digging out.
Nice controlled slide on the West Ridge from Wednesday afternoon.

Nice also to get sun dogs

A vehicular mishap on Century in the afternoon.

No idea if other vehicles were involved. As most of us know, that corner is in the shade and wicked slick. Held me up for about 20 minutes at about 2pm. Would have been a longer wait but bunches of people got impatient & decided to turn around and go thru Sunriver.
ETA - heard today that, in addition to the Vail reps who got stranded on PMX Tuesday, others got stranded at NWX and got to participate in this week’s reenactment of Napoleon's Retreat From Moscow along with MtB’s Ops Manager. Bet that was awkward! At least they only had to hike to OBX…

They were clearing snow off the chair parking terminal and it slide off and slammed into a chair going in the bottom terminal. Smashed the safety bar and did some damage inside. By the time I talked to maintenance then got over to Buttercup they had it running on slow to offload.
I'd check the website in the morning for updates. Stadium started up too
I'll post a YouTube video
MHX reopened at 3:26
I was surprised to see one 1 patrol on belay. Maybe it was because we were so close to the ground
Schadenfreude Is a hell of a drug.
It’s too bad they aren’t asking patrons to complete their satisfaction survey. I would suggest a surface lift between NWX & WV, and on for CCX to Sunrise.
Of course it would break soon/repeatedly as well.
On the topic of shit breaking, the monitor above the pass readers at SRX wasn’t functioning Thursday so the facial recognition cameras were of no use. Too bad as I’ve taken to extending a middle finger to the cameras as I go thru
Anyone been out to Anthony Lakes this season? Thinking of heading there soon for a long weekend.
Blackhawk low and slow over s side of Hood this evening
cold but no new -- i am not inspired to go ski hard albeit sunny groom this weekend
Me and B are going tomorrow, HRM lot. I skied these sucker's to the car last week. I just happened to decide to check the DIN, and found a surprise. 35 year old Marker M6.1 can fail

I bought these skis because they were $20 on clearance, brand new. There were going to be cut up for ski chairs, but skied too well
Attachment 510334
Interloper might buy ^^^ (if the waist doesn’t exceed 72mm)
I contemplated renting some 72mm skis today.
Not that it’s bad out there by any means, actually quite enjoying my Enforcer 94s. Top surface at the Doo today was very dry from the cold temps but the underlying snow was crazy fast and very firm. Those E94s are the skinniest alpine skis I own and I kept saying to myself “I bet a true frontside rocket ski would be absolutely ridiculous at Mach looney today.”
Just as well. Probably too wide for Interloper anyway
Rent some Stockli lasers or stormrider 88s from le’Doo. I’m running the latter at Mt Brokenchair during this dry spell and loving them - damp with great edge hold on anything short of race-ready
And if you like SR 88s I know of a pair at a screamingly great deal that may well fit you.
Kendo's 88 are rocking it today

I have not skied in more than 2 weeks… ever since dropping a full gallon jug of cooking oil from Costco right on my little toe that hasn't been so little anymore. Yeah, well, I know you all care and I fully expect sympathy cards pouring in my way… and what’s up with this weather *grumble
Just cut the dang thing off and be done with it.
Nice shot J.
I got to spend a cool 40 minutes on Summit chair this AM. Electrical failure when we were halfway up, followed by switch to diesel for a ride timed in glacial epochs while they cleared the line. And I didn’t get a hot chocolate…
It’s always something at Mt Brokenchair - it was CCX shitting the bed the two days prior. Guy I was skiing with is former patroller at Snowbird - sez he’s gonna start carrying his chair evac kit with him. Throw a rope over the haul line and self-belay his descent.
Upper Wynoga was nice once we got there, except for a couple bare/thin spots at the top. Off groom is ice and coral reef.
Well the cold snap is done with.
Low temps were maybe not so impressive for Mt Brokenchair but decently low at the Doo, two nights in a row of 11F in the lot, and last night with a constant wind to boot. Thank goodness for a 25kbtu furnace, big ol lithium iron battery, and a cylinder full of propane! Stars have been fantastic at least, as has been the dusk magic hour of night skiing, watching 3 Fingered change colors between 430 and 515 pm. I even got to watch a falling meteor while shooting the shit with a buddy after the resort lights shut off.
Good times. Let it snow!
