Did I wander into the Bitcoin thread by mistake?
Well said. The truth is mtn bikers and ebikers would make better allies than enemies. The same folks who would love you kick mopeds off single track want MTB bikes gone as well. And truthfully 99% of the bikers I know have absolutely no issues sharing singletrack with an ebike and feel they should be categorized the same.
For what it’s worth I’ve never ridden my Levo on an illegal or unsanctioned trail. How many people on this board can say the same about their mtn bike?
I'm a little salty on the topic because I'm fairly certain this is the final nail in the coffin of getting back access to Wilderness for biking.
That doesn't mean I hate mopeds or that I won't some day have a moped.
The Wilderness things bums me out, though.
Some of you folks don’t seem to understand why a cyclist might dislike eBikes?
Well, for example, there’s a connector trail that I’ve been riding since 1990 and dogs and motorized traffic have never been allowed, and yet now routinely eBikes (with & w/o dogs), use it all the time. I’ve given up mentioning to folks that eBikes or dogs aren’t allowed because people just act like they don’t give a fuck .
It’s an easement through private property, and I want to continue to ride my bike on this trail.
fuck these dip shits.

Yeah, no shit.
However, the reality of situation is, right or wrong, that land managers were not prepared for the onslaught of emtb and the manufacturers have done fuck all to advocate for access. Instead, they just saw dollar signs and marketed and sold bikes out into an environment that wasn’t quite ready, crossed their fingers and put the onus of advocacy onto users - after the fact.
And now, with it getting more and more difficult to make a distinction between mopeds and Amish bikes (this is my friend’s term and it makes us laugh), there is a chance that some land managers may drop the access hammer on everything that looks like a bike rather than spend the time and money to enforce a distinction…and this has some of us who have worked in mtb advocacy concerned.
Congrats on not poaching.

If this thread is an example, I don’t think most mtbers think ebikers would make good allies when it comes to trail access. In my personal experience it’s pretty obvious that 99% of mtbers don’t think e-bikes should be allowed on non motorized trails. Most haven’t really thought about it yet imo. Most of the ebikes that I see on non motorized trails are people that I know and they know better but don’t care. Really, I’ve pointed out that the area is closed to all non motorized use and the response is “I don’t care”.

Meh, put me in that 1% (and I've never been on an ebike). I just don't care. And as I've said in other ebike threads, I'd much rather share a non motorized trail like 401 with ebikes than shuttle monkeys. My ski area is non motorized but allows ebikes- I don't even notice them.
This was the first year that I saw long-time "core" local mountain bikers on ebikes. It seemed like most of them bought the ebike as an extra bike and pretty quickly favored the ebike. The appeal is growing on me- why not do a big ride like Teocalli Ridge as a quick little after work ride vs a big tiring day? And the vast majority of trails around me are open to ebikes anyway. I'll have one someday.
""Props for common sense. Not one flex either!

Man, I go out for one 6 hour ride and you guys have really gone to town here and added like 3 pages. Impressive work.
Bicycles are fun!Attachment 471695
I firmly believe that:
a) the current classification of pedal assist (class 1?) Ebikes as motorized is technically accurate but functionally dumb
b) class 1 ebikes function far more like normal bicycles than any other device out there
c) the real asshats are ripping around on Surrons in all sorts of places that they aren't appropriate
d) the hooves-and-feet-only crowd must be psyched with yet another division in the wheels-on-the-ground crowd
With that said, I don't particularly like the "fuck the rules, I'll ride it anyway" attitude the current situation encourages. Land management organizations are never going to have the budgets to truly enforce ebike vs bike restrictions on a widespread basis, and the trend right now leads to bad places (see also (d) above).
As long as the bulk of the maintenance continues to be done by cyclists i think we have a front and center seat at the table

I don't do anything but I am a paid up member of SMBA and when i see the e-biking paid trail maintenance guy at the craft brew I buy him a beer, same with the lift ops/ maintenance guy, buy him a beer
if SMBA can nab the wild fire crew before the province starts to burn they do some great work
new trails cost x-per-KM and are paid for by government grants ... quite civilized eh
That ship sailed long ago.Quote:

Tahoe is about to open a ton of non-motorized trails to mopeds, but it will try to thread the needle of only allowing class 1 e-bikes. It will be an interesting test case.

Ya same for revy plus the columbia basin trust funding. Funding is hard to come by in NB/kentucky of the north. Both areas get wind events though. We just had the outer edge of a hurricane roll through. If i want to ride, trails need to get cleaned. I like it anyway. Outside and good work out. Gives me a chamce to do extra while im there. We had a lot of blow downs. Got a good arm on with my handsaw for a couple weeks. I was there so knocked back a shit ton of bush, cleaned up a bunch that has been long overdue. Everything is open now. Just some minor tuning that probably wont get done on a trail i like. Not many use this trail. Super slow east coast mossy rockpile with punchy climbs. Too punchy and tech for the majority of acoustic bikers to have fun. An unrelenting 6km super slow loop. A fun challenge to clean on the eeb. Im going to put some rock armour in a couple mud holes, knock back some more bush and fix the bridge that the hurricane washed down stream.

just for shits and giggles I checked national parks in that foreign country to the narth where one might have the most problem, Parks Canada allows class 1 E-bikes in Banff and Jasper national parks
< 500 W motor, no throttles, < 32kph, 3 wheels or less and no socks with sandals
which part the redlining , or the 50 yr old dentist ?
I think there are way stupider posts in this thread
like rooster tails from an e-bike
Very limited amount of trails. Most trails are for horseback and hiking. Parks Canada still lives in the dark ages
