from what i could get from baseballreferance.com the 1978 yankees started the season 10-9 in the month of april. they may have gone 4-8 to start it off, but they played +500 ball each month of the season. and hey, maybe this team will too.
last year they were 11-10 in april
the last three champion yankees teams broke down like this for april:
2000 : 15-8
99: 14-7
98: 17-6
Steinbrenner is something I have learned to accept in my life, but as I said above, NYC has a lot of assholes, and he is on Mt Olympus in that respect. But I truely believe that baseball would be in a sorry state if it wasn't for him. Check back in 15 years after he's gone. You'll probably be real bored.

I liked the ESPN graphic today comparing the Nationals payroll (<50 mil) to that of the Yankees' (>200 mil), alongside their respective records/places. But, as I keep reminding the angry Yankees fans I talk to every day, it's only April. Steinbrenner is the same as he ever was.

I ran the Boston Marathon yesterday with a Yankees cap on and I got a "Yankees Suck" within 200 yards of the starting line. I thought I would at least get out of Hopkinton before the jeers would start.
The seething hatred got me through the rough bits though.

None of the taunting was malicious. More like "C'mon. You can do it. And oh, by the way, Yankees Suck." A couple of guys next to me in the starting pen got a "Yankees Suck" chant going. That got a good laugh going, and then we were off.
The course isn't too bad. The first 10 miles or so are really, really fast, so many runners (yours truly included) unsmartly push the pace. When I heard the 10 mile split, I knew I was in for a world of hurt. Add the heat to it, and Stu was a hurtin' camper when he hit Boylston Street. I didn't wear sunblock either, so I have a nice farmer's burn. And how come none of the girls at Wellesley were attractive? That was a bit of a bummer.
was it your first time?
comming from the area you get used to it. but i'm realizing how many people travel to boston just to run the race. its a pretty cool thing.

He also gave up 5 runs (albeit 3 earned) in 5 innings, added to the 5 he gave up to the Yanks in 5 innings. That's a hefty 7-8.00 ERA... of course I have no room to talk with the way the Yankees staff has pitched. But it all leads us back to one thing- the season is only 15 games old.Quote:

I think the Sox are where the Yank's were 6-7 years ago. Core group of guys who really care about the team and being associated with the
Red Sox organization. A-Rod and The Big Unit may pay lip service to the notion of being a Yankee, but at the end of the day, they are just hired guns and the fans know it.

If that's what it takes for that team to get their shit together (and it's not as if they held the D-Rays down defensively), the season will be very disappointing for Yankees fans (not that there's anything even remotely wrong with that).
