Lech zürs anton stuben ( all connected) are good but the arlberg gets tracked super fast. And this storm is so strong that the normal nw areas might get less than expected because it blows everything deeper into the main alpine ridge. Though lech zürs may still be deep enough to Profit.

For a better Euro experience I'd go someplace less known with Big vertical. ( ok it all seems big from the US but 4000k feet is rather the norm here).

If you're Set on Austria I'd go further east. Tirol does only hold smaller good areas because so many people apparently don't have to work in innsbruck [emoji6]

I also don't think there's much of a difference in prices between Lech and Zürs. Unless you've got a deal lined up. Access would be pretty much the same. Its been a while since I've been out there though.

Zurs would be fantastic. If ya have a rental car and wanna try some other resorts too check out Landeck

Arlberg is good but mega over priced and tracked out very fucking quickly. There's plenty of good skiing and drinking in Österreich cheaper and less powder mania.

thanks for the advice. I did not understand Arlberg. Had watched a movie where they went up and skied some nice backcountry lines than got excited by the forecast. Watched a couple more youtube videos and got a better understanding of the area. one guy hired a guide and by noon was out of fresh snow.
I am planning to split the trip between Gaschurn and Ladis. The snowfall does not look that great but I am looking at totals for the towns below 4000ft. I imagine they have plenty higher up. Anyway open to any advice or recommendations for lodging. thanks again. Kuanertal looks interesting.

Care to share some decent smaller resorts to hit in Western Tyrol on a pow day....heading that way in late January.

@BFD I suggest the Zillertal (more east though)has some good skiing. Hoch Fügen in particular has some great accessible terrain and a short hike or tour will give you some good decents. As does Zell Am Ziller/Gerlos and the Hoff and the hintertux gletscher all on the same valley pass and all on a free train running the lenght of the valley. There's guest houses/b&bs/hotels everywhere in Austria, search on the tourist info sites for best deals. If you're intent on staying SFL west sides don't discount the Paznauntal ie ischgl/galtur/kappl/see. Also Soelden/Obergurgl has some great high alpine shit going off

If you do the Montafon I'd base myself in gallenkirch. Direct access to two areas and gargellen is right up the road. Gargellen has more fun terrain directly accessible. The Rest of the Montafon is more for people who know the area. AND gargellen has a solid base because its high. Anything below 1200m has been rained away.

I'd put ischgl on the list.full of drunk tourists, but easily accessible terrain and Profits from these strong storms we're having. Usual Stau does not push that far into the inner alpine so this season is good. And no true freerider goes there because of the party vibe which makes terrain less stressful than arlberg. And some true small gems further down the valley towards Inntal.

Not up the valley though. Galtür sucks donkey balls. I've been there bouldering [emoji3]
But amazing touring and huts from the bielerhöhe.

yes the Wanglspitze is a funky face to ski loads of lines to lap. Bonus also in the Hoff, if he's half as good looking at me he'd get lucky with the girls in many of the apres haunts

right when I thought I had it figured out you had to go and complicate things.:) I am sticking with Gaschurn although looks like the silveretta hochstrasse is closed for the winter. I had looked a bit at Hintertux earlier as was recomended for glaciers and alltitude in case there was a shortage of snow. Now I know what else to look at in that area ,also the free train. I was thinking Ladis as it is close to Gaschurn so minimal travel. Looks like 4hrs 9 minutes gaschurn to Zillertal. I will go over that with my traveling partner. Fortunately My partner already thinks I am half as good looking as Rossymcg or I would be looking to get lucky with one of those girls mothers in Hoff.

Snow update - alternating snow and soup in Klosters. Lots of it.

thanks that is exactly what my friend said. I was just trying to find the small village with a few restaurants a couple of old buildings to look at and a lift to the alpine.

since I am spending the day on the internet. My mom was in the U.S. army during WW 2. She ended up in Austria at the end of the war. She spoke yiddish and worked uniting families after the war. She brought home this painting.

It is the only thing I have saved from my parents. She never skied in her life. The painting hung in our house when I was growing up. I did not understand the track going up was a herringbone until I was 24 and learned to ski. end blog

Cost to fly to Whistler the same as for me to fly to Zurich. Pulled the trigger in the end of March for a trip with my old lady to hit Europe. Can't wait - going to be patient and a couple days outbook places. I skied a bunch of Austria around 2012-14, 4er, 6er, 8er, heated seats bubbles, gondolas everywhere. It is so refined and mind boggling. Can't even compare to the States. I am hitting Disentis/Sedrun/Admermatt for a few days in end of January - I got on the google earth and it looks like 13 miles from end to end. Plus planning on a little apres ski train at the end of the day to get from Andermatt back to Disentis. Can't do that on the left side of the pond.

Unfortunately we have no more apres ski wagon anymore [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
